HOLY SHIT!

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Ohio State has hired E. Gordon Gee as the university's fourteenth president, The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

Gee, who served as Ohio State's president from 1990 through 1997, had been chancellor at Vanderbilt since 2000.

Sources told The Dispatch that Gee, 63, informed Vanderbilt's board of trustees of his decision on Wednesday morning.

Gee succeeds Karen A. Holbrook, who retired from her position when her contract expired on June 30.

Ohio State's Board of Trustees is expected to vote on Gee's choice on Thursday, The Dispatch reported.

Watch The Ohio News Network Thursday at 4 p.m. for a Live Press Conference with Gordon Gee.

To pre-empt Nunley, Well, they already LOST to Florida. Might as well come back to enjoy this year's defeats.

A lot of people from other states don't believe it but there's a little more to OSU than its athletic department. If WVU had lured Gee back, I'd be happy for that great university. As it is, I'm happy for the great university in Columbus.

To those unfamiliar with Ohio State facts and folklore, Gordon Gee stands out as probably the most impressive and well-liked Presidents in the University's history.

Gee had that pefect balance of academic smarts and a respect for academia, financial and funding knowledge, political hob-nobbing with Columbus area Power Titans, developing short and long term goals for academic excellence, improving the school's physical facilities, mastery of alumni relations, knowing the appropriate role of the Athletic department in a major university, goal setting among the bazillion university department heads, and, at the end of the day, just being able to sit down and have a conversation with a group of undergrad students in a dining hall some afternoon.

Gee was Ohio State's Ronald Reagan -- someone you could like and trust to run the ship even if you didn't agree with him on a specific issue. He was (and is) a larger than life figure in the Columbus area.

7 out of 10 people can't describe Karen Holbrook to save their life. A picture of Gee, by comparison, is instantly recognizable to many people who only had casual contact with Ohio State University over the years.
