South Central Regional Jail

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

WCHS newsman faces battery charge

Dana Patrick McMurtry, the outdoors and recreation anchor for WCHS/WVAH-TV News, has been charged with domestic battery for allegedly hitting his wife over the head with a glass picture, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

McMurtry, 47, became violent with his wife at their home on Emerald Road in Charleston Sunday morning, the complaint said.

Charleston Patrolman K.M. Bass alleges in the complaint that McMurtry hit his wife, Felicia Cottrell, in the neck and then struck her over the head with a glass picture at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Cottrell was taken to CAMC General Hospital, where she received treatment for cuts on her hands, according to the complaint. She had placed both her hands over her head to protect herself, according to the complaint.

Magistrate Kim Aaron arraigned McMurtry, who was released on a $50 cash bond. The charges carry up to a year in jail and/or a $500 fine.

McMurtry is not the first WCHS newsman to face criminal charges.

In September 2003, former anchor Tom McGee was sentenced in Kanawha Magistrate Court to one year of home confinement and fined $1,940 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Kim AAron is the wife of WCHS newsguy Bob AAron.
Is McZMurtry's wife Felecia Cottrill actually WSAZ's Jennifer Cottrill?

Someone on my messageboard has already posted the following:

"With the history of domestic violence in WV magistrates have always placed a high bond on men arrested for domestic battery (makes no difference if they are innocent or not) they also usually get slapped with a restraining order. WCHS TV 8 anchor Patrick McMurty was arrested for domestic battery and Magistrate Arron (her husband Bob Arron works for WCHS) released him on a $50.00 cash bond. This is unheard of and a outrage. She should be removed as a magistrate. I actually do beleive in the concept innocent until proven guilty, but I also believe that all men arrested on this charge should be treated the same no matter who you are."

All bad roads lead back to poor Tom McGee: (from the Gazette)

McMurtry is not the first WCHS newsman to face criminal charges.

In September 2003, former anchor Tom McGee was sentenced in Kanawha Magistrate Court to one year of home confinement and fined $1,940 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence.

In exchange for the plea, police dropped felony charges against McGee. He also had agreed to give up his driver’s license for at least 10 years. In June 2003, McGee fled police and drove his new Chevrolet TrailBlazer the wrong way toward the 35th Street Bridge, according to police reports.

50 years from now, any anchor caught for doing something stupid can rest easy in the knowledge that his story will be overshadowed by the Tom McGee saga.

McMurtrys picture and bio is missing from the WCHS website.
No job listed yet.
Would that be a good job for Coolbreeze?
He is not too repulsive looking.
