ATTN: WVSR & WMXE

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

ATTN: WVSR & WMXE

Post by Big Media »

WVSR,

My requests have gone ignored. Now I must take it a step further and start singling out specific stations that have willfully and repeatedly violated my requests to halt the broadcast of Rockstar, by Nickelback.

First of all, what the hell is a Nickelback? Is that like a dimebag? A quarterhorse? WTF? And don't tell me it is a football position because if that is the case, why would a rock band call themselves a football position?

Second.. I was driving home Friday evening on I64 when I witnessed the first violation. At approximately 5:10 PM, you played a "listener request" in a ridiculous attempt to justify your deplorable actions. In reality, it was the WQBE DJ calling from down the hall to "request" Rockstar. I was not fooled.

Immediately, my ears began to bleed. I bleed out, died, received a transfusion, and was given a release to return to work today.

Then, on my way in to work this very morning, at approximately 8:30 AM, I heard it again!

Please shut down your transmitter and submit your playlist to me for immediate review. Other songs that will be cut include that godaweful piece of shit from Beyonce called "If I were a boy", and that other godaweful piece of shit from Beyonce called "Put a Ring On it". Seriously? 2 songs from one artist are both receiving max rotation? Why?

WMXE
,

Upon hearing the first measure of "Rockstar" on my way to work this morning, I quickly switched to WMXE. Dudes... you saved my life. Def Leppard was playing. Thank you.

I leave you with this, which summarizes my rant well.
No Music To My Ears: Why Nickelback Sucks
by
Phil Dotree

Every once in a while, a band comes along that makes you rethink your perception of music; the Nirvanas, the Replacements of the world, they really innovate in a way that's both engaging and unique. I'd like to go on record as saying that Nickelback somehow un-does the contributions of all of those
great bands; they are bad enough to make any music fan begin to hate music.

Now, before I keep ranting, it's important to note that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and different musical tastes are part of what makes the world so interesting. That being said, anyone who enjoys the music of Nickelback is a complete and utter retard.

I first heard Nickelback's timeless hit "How You Remind Me," in high school, and I remember thinking...well, nothing, Nickelback music tends to numb thought. It was like Genesis, Bon Jovi, and Creed formed together and chose a frontman who looked like a bizzaro version of Kurt Cobain with a perm.

The first thing you'll notice when listening to a Nickelback song is that your ears have begun to bleed. That's because the singer of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger (who, it's fun to point out, has been arrested for driving drunk, though I'd tend to believe that it was a mistake since I doubt he can walk in a straight line or sound uninebriated in any circumstance), sings like a horse would sing, if someone tried to teach a horse English but then gave up after the horse learned a few basic vowels and consonants. "NEVERWHOWAAAASSSAAAAWAAAMAAAN", he exclaims, sounding as sincere as an insurance salesman. Every vowel is "a" or "o", and every rhyme is the first one-syllable word that appears in Webster's Rhyming Dictionary for 5th Grade Kids With ADD.

And if you're lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one of Nickelback's videos, you'll surely be impressed by the tight shirts and manicured Hollywood looks of everyone in the band. C'mon, this is supposed to be a rock band? Gary Glitter was more masculine and down-and-dirty than these guys.

Someone pointed out a few years ago that all Nickelback songs are the same, and yeah, they pretty much are. You can counter with, "Hey, Muddy Waters always used a basic I-IV-V progression, too," but let's get this straight: Nickelback isn't playing the blues, and they're not putting their souls into their power chords. They're a commercial band repackaging a commercial product under a slightly different circumstance in order to reap money--not artistic integrity or musical dexterity--from the same damned thing they've been doing for years.

I know that I'm not going to be able to convince every Nickelback fan of the band's supreme suckitude, but you know what? I can live with that. As long as I systematically find and incapacitate them all. Once nobody's buying the crap, believe me; it'll disappear.

I'll let you get back to your web browsing.

Dude, you have issues that started way before those artists even released their first song!

I hate Nickelback more than you, but using this as a "source" or "calling card" is a major problem. Nirvana sucked. Face it. They sucked balls. They did nothing innovative, engaging, or unique. They were a third rate garage band. My ass is a better band than Nirvana. Seriously. The rest of my body can do my job while my ass goes to a recording studio and shits a better album than anything Nirvana did. I only wish Cobain would have shotgunned his face before they recorded "Bleach."

The Replacements? They are also the exact opposite of innovative, engaging, or unique. They were nothing more than another half ass granola pop alt band amongst hundreds of other half ass granola pop alt bands. They, much like Nickelback are nothing more than uninspired, lowest common denominator, hack, bullshit.

Everyone knows I'm right about this (even if you won't admit even to yourselves).

You know that Spiderman song Chad fronted? I never got enough of that song. I could still stand to hear that a couple times a day.

And didn't he do something with Santana? That was pretty cool, too. I'd like to hear that one a couple times a day, also.

Oh, great. Another music thread...

:D

My two sense:

Nirvana: "Nevermind" was a great album, and still is. However, I will concede that Cobain and Nirvana were more cultural icons than anything else.

I like their "Unplugged" album, too.

Conversely, if Cobain never offed himself, there's a decent chance the Foo Fighters would've never existed. I don't endorse suicide, but, you know, the FF are pretty freaking awesome.

Oh, that was bad...

Nickelback: I mostly agree. "Rockstar" is a dud. But, they're filthy rich, and chicks love them. So it doesn't matter what we think...

Life really is not fair... *sigh*

If nirvana hadnt come along we'd still be in hairband hell, we'd never have seen the grunge scene get angry enough to transform and start spitting out great bands like Tool and Rage Against the Machine, or Pantera or any of the other good rock/metal bands that came afterward..

That sounds like something Randy "The Ram" Robinson from The Wrestler might say. Direct quote from the film: "That Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all."

Agreed -- and Cobain's death in 1994 froze the band forever in time. It's amazing to think that the Foo Fighters have had a much longer career (and many more hits) than Nirvana ever did. I saw the Foo Fighters in St. Louis in March 1996 -- nearly 13 years ago! Time flies...

I'm a big fan of the Nirvana Unplugged album. To each his own, but I love that CD.

Not true. Truly great grunge bands like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden we're already on the scene long before Nirvana. Hair was going to die and grunge/hard alt was going to happen with or without anyone's consent. Nirvana is the watered down pop version of grunge just like Warrant is the watered down pop version of hair metal.

I do like "You Know You're Right" and that Meat Puppets cover they did on the Unplugged album, but otherwise Nirvana sucked ass.

Foo Fighters were and are a surprisingly good band.

Oasis' second CD, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Thank you. Why does everybody think Nirvana started all this stuff. Just because they had the first HUGE grunge album, doesn't mean they were the first grunge band. Nirvana sucked and always will.

And to the dude who wants to hear that Hero tune from Spiderman twice a day, I have an idea. Try some sort of domestic terrorism, then get thrown in Gitmo before the big "Going out of business sale". I'm pretty sure that song is on this list of those used to torture info out of terrorists. Damn, dude. I would rather be waterboarded naked by Clay Aiken next to cucumber truck that just spilled its load.

I dunno... I think I would rather hear the song twice a day.

Clay Aiken with cucumbers in the same proximity is a recipe for a gay 9/11.

Bad, bad, bad...
