Five Guys Burgers & Fries. 750 locations and .....

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries. 750 locations and .....

Post by CoolBreeze »

... I never heard of them. But living in WV, that's pretty typical. After invading Canada, they've decided to cross the border from Virginia into West Virginia (what does THAT tell you about doing business here?) Looks like we're going to get a couple of them here in the Kanawha Valley. One at the Mall (oh great) and one in Southridge.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, an American burger chain established in 1986 by a husband and wife from Virginia, has invaded Canada. Sherwood Park is their latest conquest, and St. Albert and Airdrie are next. British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec have already fallen, and I--in the name of research and gluttony--succumbed last week. Three times. All I have to say to other patty pushers out there is, "Be afraid. Be very afraid. These Guys are a force to be reckoned with."

I wasn’t the only curious person standing in line, senses inundated with the smell of beef patties sizzling on the grill and fresh-cut potatoes crackling in the deep fryer, making us salivate like Pavlov's puppy, our legs thumping to loud rock’n’roll. (Good rock’n’roll. Paradise-by-a-'72-Chevy-Nova’s-dashboard-lights kind of rock’n’roll.) The place was hopping.

What surprised me was the KISS menu and by that, of course, I mean the Keep It Simple, Stupid menu. Nothing fancy here folks, just good ol’ burgers and fries. That being said, to keep toddlers happy, Five Guys offer a gooey, goopy, uber-cheesy, grilled cheese sandwich ($3)

But how about those burgers and fries? Judging by the wallpaper (testimonials, awards, magazine write-ups, along with customers in over 750 locations across North America think these burgers and fries are the bomb.

And then there are the peanuts. These Guys will not bow to pressure from any nut allergy movement, no matter how strong the voice. No, these Guys have been handing out peanuts and frying their spuds in peanut oil since Madonna pranced onto the stage à la "Like a Virgin". Ooooh! And like Madonna, these Guys make no excuses. Peanuts are part of the establishment's identity. Madonna isn't going away, and neither are the peanuts.

Bottom line: fast and fresh. Five Guys offer a great burger with noticeable flavour, above-average fries and a fun place to stuff your face while listening to classic rock.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Five Guys.

Great burgers and awesome fries. Just don't order a large fry or you'll end up with one of those ol' fashion grocery store paper sacks filled with fries.

It's hard to find a better burger... They've been in Northern VA for years. Used to get lunch there every week or so.

I don't know if they've "chained" their food since, but when they were a local outfit, their burgers were fat and juicy.

Glad to see them become a success story.

As for them finally coming to WV, I've got used to the fact that nothing comes here until there is absolutely nowhere else left to expand to. Even the Canadian border is less formidable than the WV/VA border...

The Pullman location is doing well.

I think the name came from the family that started it - mom & 5 guys (the dad and 4 sons).

I've seen a few national surveys where they finish in the top 2-3 practically every time - usually with InandOut Burger (whatever the exact spelling is) and Fuddruckers which is losing locations like crazy but still makes a good burger. Had one at the location inside Harrah's Casino in New Orleans not too long ago.

I haven't been to Huntington for 6 or 7 years, but I know that if something new comes to WV, it usually comes to Huntington first.

Five guys is the best burger chain, period. It's a blast to watch a newbie order the large fries and make that face like their bag is filled with rattlesnakes. The menu is simple, the fries are cooked to order, and the burgers are f***ing perfect! I get 1 per week as a treat, but would eat there every day if I wasn't sure I would weigh 600 pounds. It's also nice that they write what town and farm in Idaho the day's potatoes are from. A lot of classic rock deep cuts playing loud as hell while you eat, too...what more could a human want? I'm leaving the station now...off to Five Guys.

I have three 5 Guys restaurants within 2 miles of thet house in Valley Forge, PA and I have never eaten one of their restaurants. 8O

I guess this thread is going to make me try one of their burgers. I hope it is better than the disappointment that I had when I tried Fudruckers.

Just don't order a large fry or you'll end up with one of those ol' fashion grocery store paper sacks filled with fries.
You know you have lived in Philly for too many years when that is what you expect when you order "fries" (esp. at the corner grocery/sandwich shop.) Note that a size designation is not part of the order. An order of fries just automatically come in a brown paper bag and usually contains enough to feed a family of four.

No worries about the Fudruckers issue. Fudruckers is a Chevette, and Five Guys is a brand new Bentley.

Fudds also serves ostrich and buffalo burgers.

I always liked making a side salad from the toppings bar.

:D

I hope Five Guys expands further throughout the state. They would do well in Beckley, too, as would anybody with food that fattening.
