Some strange goings on in that neck of the woods. Last year the station was hit by lightning, then discovered the mile long underground power line was destroyed (or stolen, depending on who you talk to).
There was an STA issued for 1KW at a WV location thru this November. Now the studio has moved and the owner is reportedly telling everyone he's a "50 KW station now". And that there is no intention of going back to the old location. Hopefully this is not true and only a 'boast'.
The 25 KW ERP that is the actual authorization for the station calls for a location within 10 miles of the WV border in Kentucky. This is protection of a WV EDU. The station can not increase power and move to WV.
The current STA "temp" site is the origional site planned for WXCC in the mid 70s. 50 KW coverage with 14 KW out and a short tower. So it is possible for an ERP of 50KW at this location.
The sister AM station has been dark for sometime and is authorized dark. (WHJC 1360)
Anyone know more about this?

Licensed as a C-3, which by definition means a Kentucky transmitter site (essentially equivalent to a B-1, a WV class.) However, the protection requirements for a B-1 are stricter than for a C-3.
No application on file, nor is there an STA request.
