Doomed, I say.... DOOOOOOMMMMMEEEEDDDDD!

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Non-human DJ gets radio gig
A non-human DJ will take to the airwaves next week in San Antonio, Texas, in what may mark another step on the path that puts flesh-and-blood radio personalities out of a job.

I listen to a lot of shows about "digital/artist's rights" and how the internet has destroyed the ability of musicians, actors, and writers to make a living. In the case of Musicians, this is the reason why they have such a problem and an uphill battle to get fans. Record companies used to market their artists to radio stations that put a familiar face and local talent spin on a superstar. Now, I could give two shits what Ryan Seacrest says about an artist. Now, there is not even a person "spinning the discs" or loading the cartridges or anything else. With a computerized voice at the other end and no personality to link the voice to, I won't even click on the station and just let my phone stream tracks from Pandora or Spotify.

The RIAA is so stupid that they are willing to blame the issue on illegal downloads when the problem is that the industry that propped up their extortion model collapsed right out from under them. With the advent of devices like the TiVo and Roku along with Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., the visual broadcast model is next. I may watch 4 hours of non-news based broadcast TV from the cable box per week outside of football season or something like the Olympics. (I am excluding my 1 hour of CNBC that is on when I get ready for work in the morning.) I am not the only person that has moved into the direction of gathering their entertainment from sources other than sequential media that is broadcast through the air or in a fiber optic pipe. And the media companies know this is a huge problem. When Google TV arrived last year, the content streamers immediately disabled the device and turned it into a brick in the media cabinet of those that were early adopters. This move crushed the model and nearly destroyed Logitech who was the sole producer of the product. Now, the last laugh is on Google who is about to acquire their very own set top box manufacturer. Hahahaha.

Back to the point, there is very little "human" element in radio today. When a producer can voice track and program a weeks worth of air time on 5 stations with the talent that it used to take to make a typical morning show, we have reached the point where this is a medium that no longer is applicable to our culture. The new model is for artists to self promote and pray for a viral explosion of their work on the web. The sad day has arrived. The song was wrong when they said it was TV that killed the radio star. It was Web 2.0 killed the radio star along with the DJ and the rest of the industry.
The first step in a successful revolution is to defeat all competing revolutionaries.
