Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. wins

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. wins

Post by CoolBreeze »

I'm happy to see the guy win, although I must agree with the writer below:

I found his selection to be something of an upset against the talent juggernaut of Team iLuminate, which finished third (!) in the competition. For starters, Landau's central selling point is the gimmick of a somewhat dopey carwasher magically transforming into a scene-stealing baritone singer, who confidently belts out classic standards such as "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head."

He's Cinderella with a microphone — but once you've seen him transform into a prince, what else does he have to offer that other such singers don't? Is there really a shortage of Vegas lounge acts that sing Frankie, Dino, Sammy, etc.? I presume not.

Of the four acts presented in the finals;

Iliminuate used camera tricks and overhead mirrors for TV. This does not work on stage.

Poplyfe simply sucked.

The shaddow dancers were a no starter from the begining. What they were trying to convey was unclear this time.

At least landau did sing, using his own voice, and acting like a pro. Linda Rondstadt made a bundle out of 're-singing' old standards. Landau could too.

But then no one lost!

Did you get that?

All will go on stage with Landau, he's just he is the prime act. Not too shabby for any of them I would say.

My way of saying what you just said: "He's the only act that 'talent'".

There's a difference between talent and talented, the latter of which the others were...

I switched over to 13 just after the news started. unless they said something in the opening, I didn't hear anything about the big win. I guess since no one was killed and since he wasn't from Charleston it wasen't news for bray.

I taped a piece for 13 today. Don't know if it aired yet. I was doing a remote in Charleston and didn't get back to L.A. till after 6p. See what happens when Logan goes big time? They let me do remotes in Charleston.

I've talked to some people that know him, and they say he isn't a one trick pony, when it comes to his singing ability.

Trust me, this cat can sing anything. The Sinatra thing made him unique but he does about the best "Purple Rain" you have ever heard, next to Prince. He can also do Gospel, blues, Motown and more. What you see on TV is what you get...the nicest, most down to Earth guy in the world.
