Re: Webster Springs Hot Dog sauce
I have bought The Custard Stand brand a few times, initially to support the Webster Springs brand. At first I liked it on it's own, but if I buy it now, I have to spice it up with some cayenne or some bottled hot sauce. The taste is real bland to me now.Plus, it's fairly expensive. Almost $5 at Kroger for the pint size.rfhertz wrote:One of the best hot dog sauces I have tried is made in Webster Springs, WV. "Custard Stand Hot Dog Chili Sauce". Most Krogers in and near WV carry it.
I am living in an area where if you ask for hot dog sauce, you get a blank stare and maybe a bottle of ketchup.
My mother-in-law ships Custard Stand sauce to me. I currently have six quarts in my freezer!
Hot Dog: Ball Park Beef Franks. I just don't trust the hot dogs made with fowl parts (mechanically separated chickens?). I prefer to deep fry them (yes, I use peanut or canola oil in my Rival deep basket fryer) until they split. My wife likes her dogs burnt, which means I don't boil them too often, but when I do, I'll put a strainer over the steaming water with the buns in it.
Bun: Nickles split-top, buttered and grilled on the sides.
Condiments: (Debbie Yann used to sell the Yann's sauce by the quart! Man, I miss that.) Spicy chili with a brown mustard.
Why is it that hot dogs are something I crave when I haven't had any in a while?

CUZ YOU'RE AN AMERICAN BY GOD!!!! (somebody cue something patriotic) no offense Spike, you're more American than some Americans I know, so, you're an honorary American in my book... so hold your hot dog high with the rest of us!Big Dawg wrote: Why is it that hot dogs are something I crave when I haven't had any in a while?
craving a hot dog is as American as swinging a baseball bat, dipping an Oreo in a glass of milk, not using your turn signals.... hot dogs have become a staple in the American diet. do you think Babe Ruth could have blasted all those home runs without eating all those great hot dogs? what would we do on the 4th of July if we couldn't flip on ESPN 2 and see a skinny Janpanese guy forcing 50+ hot dogs in his face... now THAT'S AMERICAN!!! and when you're camping, have you ever tried to stick a fresh pattie of ground beef on the end of a stick that you just ripped from a tree and stick it over the fire? NO! because it doesn't make sense. (turn that patriotic music up a bit, i'm about to get loud up in here) hot dogs are as unique as each American that eats them. you really can't go wrong with the tube of processed meat parts. slather it with chili and raw onions, and spicy mustard. or just ketchup for most of the youngin's. some love the sweet relish, while others will create their own special hot dog toppings like the delicious yellow slaw i had once in Charleston somewhere. fried onions, cucumbers, pickles, mayonaise, brown mustard, yellow mustard, spicy mustard, hot chili, warm chili, no beans, no meat, kosher, chicken, pork, beef, tofu, boiled, grilled, smoked, fried, burnt over a fire, footlong, jumbo, steamed bun, toasted bun, no bun, cut up mixed in with baked beans.... excercise your hot dog freedom. God bless hot dogs, and God bless boobies!!!

I've been inside the giant weinermobile. Oh, it can go, but it's definitely showing its age. And it smells funny.
Hey, Lee.....correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first time (or first time in a really long time) that you've used a picture of yourself as your avatar?

Man Beats World Hot Dog Eating Record
Jun 3, 3:30 AM (ET)
By BOB CHRISTIE
PHOENIX (AP) - A California man smashed the world record for hot dog eating at a contest Saturday, gobbling up more than 59 franks in 12 minutes.
Joey Chestnut, 23, of San Jose, shattered the record held by Takeru Kobayashi of Japan by downing 59 1/2 "HDBs" - hot dogs and buns - during the Southwest Regional Hot Dog Eating Championship at the Arizona Mills Mall in suburban Tempe.
Kobayashi's old record of 53 3/4 was set last year at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, held at Coney Island in New York, said George Costos, who helps runs the regional contests for Nathan's.
Chestnut placed second in last year's world championships, consuming 52 hot dogs.
"He's unbelievable - he just keeps on going," said Ryan Nerz, who works for Major League Eating, which he describes as "a world governing board for all stomach-centric sports."
"These guys' numbers have just been going up at a tremendous clip," Nerz said. "I always thought there was a limit - a limit to the human stomach and a limit to human willpower - but I guess not."
Chestnut won a free trip to New York, a year's supply of hot dogs and a $250 gift card to the mall.
He flew to New York on Saturday night for a previously scheduled trip to throw out the first pitch Sunday at a game between the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks, Costos said.
