When I was in Ohio the stations there paid the talent, then the business paid the "talent fee" which they had the managers could pay in like-value items. I can't tell you how many t-shirts and baseball camps I got from one particular sporting goods store. Down here the station pays the talent their fee, so no points.
Titties and beer...thank God almighty for titties and beer!

A certain company here sometimes pays their talent in points at local "Big" stores who may or not have a manager named "Sandy." I'm not too keen on the linguistics of it, but it goes along those lines that they can redeem "points" towards purchases of items in their "Superstore."

that's the best way to make money on the radio side. if you're creative and know what kinds of things you do well. you can search out leads for your sales people and even go on calls. this will build client loyalty and guarantee they request you if you make a good impression. my mid day girl is the queen of that. she'll probably pull down near her yearly salary this year alone in talent fees.Lester wrote:Demeaning? That's just part of the job.
this has long been the reality in radio. ever since GM's realized that they could pay talent a smaller yearly salary, as long as they kept the talent happy by getting the clients to make up the difference to what the talent should actually be making.
endorsements are very lucrative as well. and you can search them out as well.
if that's the case and that's the ONLY way to get the sale. the jock should demand to get the items at store cost. since that's what their getting. NEVER set a precedence of reducing or diminishing talent fees.homeboy wrote: A certain company here sometimes pays their talent in points at local "Big" stores who may or not have a manager named "Sandy." I'm not an idiot, but I play one on the radio.
