For that matter there is still those who still believe we are headed for another ice age. Here is an example:
http://www.iceagenow.com/
Yet another theory suggests there is global warming that will cause an ice age:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... t.research
You can enter either ice age by itself, or ice age global warming into your favorite search engine and you will see either theory mentioned has many entries. Bottom line, Al Gore was not correct, the scientific community does not agree, and we just don't know.
Now about Bob's theory about whether we should prepare for global warming regardless.........
That will be the subject of another post. Perhaps the next one below?

Looks like it's me again.
As we know there is plenty of articles about polar ice melting at the North Pole. Example:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/888235.stm
However how many people are talking about the increases in ice and snow at the South Pole?
http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/1999/1 ... 0092.shtml
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/new ... a_ice.html
Again, there is a lot more to talk about before we come up with any final answers.
Now about Bob's theory...........

Even the people who lead the movement on global warming don't think conservation applies to them.

If they are serious, why not teleconference? Set the example for the rest of us.
Maybe the leadership is just "above us".

Liberal leaders like Ted Kennedy and Walter Cronkite doesn't want wind farms.

It's hard to take the movement seriously when their leadership operates like some of the above examples.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who actually reads some of the reports. Yes, global warming may cause an ice age. That's a theory about 20 years old. Yes, there have been specific years in the last 150 that have been cooler than others. But the overall trend, world wide is upward. The information about more ice at the South Pole is not correct. I think the best pictures you can get on line of the shrinkage of the Ross Ice Shelf may be google earth, but I'm not certain.
And still, either way, preparing for it is a win win for the whole planet.

so.... bob. you wouldn't happen to have a REALLY good (inside) stock tip, related to all this, for me would ya?
i wanna win too. i'm selfish. the world won't explode before i die. what's in it for a selfish bastard like me.... NOW?
[random randomness to keep it kinda on radio and media]
will it make radio a viable commodity/tool to the "milenials"? will advertisers start buying 60 second rip-n-read commercials again?
[/feeble attempt]

Hey Bob, glad to hear you do read these reports and don't just drink the kool-aid about all of this. Please give this a look. I just saw this one today and would be interested in your thoughts.Bob Campbell wrote: The information about more ice at the South Pole is not correct.

Great news for one year, but not the trend. We can all point to micro numbers to try to poke holes in a macro trend, but the logic is false.
Bottom line in all this is, naysayers or not, the paradigm is changing. Rush and Hannity and all the radio nuts in the world can't change it. We can lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Greenland was once green. About a thousand or so years ago.
Before the little ice age that we are moving out of.
Please do not depend on those weather sensors that have found their way onto buildings with a flat tar roof or are in the middle of asphalt parking lots.
If you really believe in Global Warming caused by humans, plant a tree.
Or buy stock in the biggest tree planters around, Georgia-Pacific and Weyerhauser. Maybe you would like to buy carbon credits from AlGore.
Until the loudest mouths in global warming cut their lifestyles back, why should I?

A few other things to keep in mind as we discuss this. The vast majority of Scientists once thought
the planet was flat (some still do http://theflatearthsociety.org/)
man would never fly
The Earth was the center of the Universe, everything revolved around it. (remember they used to put people in prison or kill them over this)
Faster than the speed of sound travel could never happen
it was not possible to travel in space
it was not possible to travel to the moon
All of this and many more examples from the majority of scientists. While I don't agree that the vast majority of scientists feel the gospel according to Al Gore, even if they did just because you are the majority doesn't mean you are correct. I realise these are extreme examples, but it is worth thinking about in this context.

See, that's the neat thing about science. Take the best observations available, and that's what you get. As the observations improve, the theories are revised.
That's what the majority of scientists do.
The minority of "scientists" say the earth is hollow.
The earth is only 5000 years old.
The earth is flat (some still do).
It was the majority of scientists who gave us those theories. It was also the majority who overturned them. Real science always questions theory, tests it, and revises it on the results of the tests. If different scientists can't reproduce the results of another scientists tests, those tests come under intense scrutiny.
Do you really want to live in a world where the things we use are designed by the minority of scientists? That darned majority gave us the moon landings, computers, tv, MRIs, antibiotics, plastics. Anybody want to give those up so you can follow the minority?
If all the theories about global warming are wrong, the majority of scientists will change their theories.
Do you honestly think 98% ( or more) of the planet's scientists are part of some secret cabal trying to ...I don't know...make the air clean?
What do you think Al Gore gets out of it? Money. Did he need more?
The Presidency? Oh, he's not running. Fame? Because none of us had ever heard of him?
Still, worst case scenario if we act as if the most dire predictions of global warming are correct; cleaner air, new economic opportunitie, healthier children. God forbid we get any of that.
The great thing about science is the fact that it does change. Theories are revised to match observation. If it didn't do that, it wouldn't be science.

I am enjoying this discussion. We can agree or disagree, and not get mad and flame one another. Quite refreshing!
Let's look at Bob's responses.
True, but keep in mind even what is in the center of the planet is only theory. We don't have that capacity to observe in any way the center of the planet.

Yes, the Fax machine was invented about 140 years before it became popular in businesses. Could be happening again with this subject.

Would anyone argue against clean air? It is just whether there is the global emergency we are led to believe.
In conclusion this time around, this needs more discussion and study. We don't know if this phase of weather is man-made in any way. It is time we found out though if we can.
Let's look at Bob's responses.
Exactly my point about the facts are not all in on this. We should be willing to keep an open mind on BOTH sides of this issue.See, that's the neat thing about science. Take the best observations available, and that's what you get. As the observations improve, the theories are revised.
That's what the majority of scientists do.

I hear the 7000 year timeframe more than the 5000.The earth is only 5000 years old.
True again as discussed earlier. The earth is flat (some still do).
Don't totally discount the possibility that the beginning of that scrutiny has begun. I as well as others here gave some compelling articles earlier. It was the majority of scientists who gave us those theories. It was also the majority who overturned them. Real science always questions theory, tests it, and revises it on the results of the tests. If different scientists can't reproduce the results of another scientists tests, those tests come under intense scrutiny.
Everything you described came from minority of thinkers who eventually changed peoples minds about the ability of such devices to be marketable. Look at one example of the minority tried to market but nobody wanted to touch it.Do you really want to live in a world where the things we use are designed by the minority of scientists? That darned majority gave us the moon landings, computers, tv, MRIs, antibiotics, plastics. Anybody want to give those up so you can follow the minority?

Kicking and screaming I suspect. Refer to searches on the flat Earth theory of old, as well as Galileo. Who was shuned by the scientific community as well as the Catholic church. If all the theories about global warming are wrong, the majority of scientists will change their theories.

Not having the time to read all the links, I'll go with this.
Gore is certainly getting lots of money. But he already had lots. What are the motivations of the naysayers? Are any of them selling books or getting money from oil companies or others with a vested interest in the status quo (of course they are)?
Every idea starts with one or a few people. After it is confirmed by the majority it becomes the standard. Even while Galileo lived, his theories were becoming the standard. Of course, back then it took quite a bit longer to spread information.
Alright, 98% of the world's scientific community is colluding to do whatever you may think they are doing. I grant you that. Science will never get us anywhere. Only our faith in Jesus will save us.
While we can't visually observe the center of the earth, there are a variety of ways to do it in non-visual manner. Thermal imaging, sonic imaging, magnetic resonance, all can give us enough information to let us know that it's not hollow.
Cool picture, what's the story behind it?

OK Bob, maybe I did go overboard with too many links. Just trying to show my point with several references not just one that would look like a nut.Bob Campbell wrote:Not having the time to read all the links, I'll go with this.

True, but this probably is going to take off to the point he will rich beyond his wildest dreams. Whether we like it or not this Carbon Credit thing is going to go BIG I am certain.Gore is certainly getting lots of money. But he already had lots.
What I have been saying here is I simply don't agree that 98% of the scientific community agrees with us causing planetary change, and that no one can prove 98% agree. I do believe there are way more than 2% of the community who think otherwise. For example, one of the links I sent had the founder of the Weather Channel challenging this theory. However I can't prove my percentage either.Alright, 98% of the world's scientific community is colluding to do whatever you may think they are doing.
Science will never get us anywhere.
Never said that, nor did I imply that. I think just the opposite.
Wow could we start a powerful new thread on this quote. You have hit the nail on the head on both sides of this debate, and every other one currently in the court of public opinion. EVERYONE in the media and the public eye has a vested interest in something these day in some fashion. We are a nation with much more information, and need much more time to filter through it and figure out what is fact and what is fiction. Who is unbiased these days? That is a bigger question than what we are writing about today. What are the motivations of the naysayers? Are any of them selling books or getting money from oil companies or others with a vested interest in the status quo (of course they are)?
Just to make myself clear, I don't believe in a flat Earth, hollow Earth, that we never went to the Moon etc. I just was using the outlandish to make a point. I do believe we really don't know what is in the Earth, although we do have very good reason to think it is not hollow. While we can't visually observe the center of the earth, there are a variety of ways to do it in non-visual manner. Thermal imaging, sonic imaging, magnetic resonance, all can give us enough information to let us know that it's not hollow.
Speaking of the Moon, have you seen this?

Glad to see they appear to still be on track!
A final to make my point about wanting us to look in to this further and not just drink the kool-aid (no I don't think you personally are). These both appeared recently. I just think the jury is still out on this.
