Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
I would go with the fact that you were a stupid kid who's momma drank Boone's Farm arn and huffed gold paint at the bus stop. As for my sister-in-law she kinda looks like Nunley with a moo-moo.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
I'm not sure what Boone's Farm arn is.. but the thought of Nunley in a Moo-Moo has disturbed me. Who would have ever thought Hawaiian sleepwear would be so popular with the West Virgina elderly.
As for you..
Remember when we were kids.. and we worked in that little local radio station years ago. God, we had all those dreams of making it out of that little town and ... oh, wait.... you're still there.
Sorry, dude.

I don't expect you to be able to recall your mother drinking at the bus stop. I mean, you've spent how many thousands in therapy to forget it all? I suppose you don't remember her losing you in that poker game either? The mind is a strange creature, Kidd. As for me STILL being here.....wanna compare paychecks?

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
Dave,
You told me what you make there. You don't want to compare paychecks. I make what you do in talent fees, alone. LM pays $75 an hour. Besides that, what price can you put on being Speedy's bitch?? And that poker game loss was completely taken out of context. She had every intention of winning me back. She just needed a change of luck.
Go back to puking the Logan County lunch menu over the intros of Waylon Jennings records before I give you a slap. Hi-lite boy.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
Don't you have to HAVE talent to get a talent fee? As for the hi-lites I haven't had those in a few years. Your mother liked them, and that was all that mattered to me. I think she may have put them in, shortly after I shaved her back. BYW, I don't puke the menus nor do I play Waylon. In case anyone wonders, though, they're having fish nuggets today.
Good old fish nuggets. That's what I lovingly call your mother.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
I am starting to see a pattern in your joke repertoir. I am going to tell my mom everything you said.. and you will have to face her when you do your reading for the Kindergarten kids at Holden Central Elementary School. Who will be in big trouble then, Mister? I seriously would not want to be you.. when you stand in the door to my mother's room with your copy of "Run Spot Run." You will think "Fish Nuggets," and regret all of your childish humor.

I regret it already. Tell Mr. Cartoon the next time you talk to him that I will gladly accept a pie in the eye.....much like your mother.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
I remember when my Cub Scout pack took a tour of WSAZ's studios and we saw the Mr. Cartoon set. It was when they were supposedly on the surface of the moon. I wasn't a stupid kid and I knew they really weren't on the moon, but when I saw that cardboard stand-up spaceship it kind of burst a bubble for me. I remember that exact moment, and I'm 52. Come to think of it, could that have been pre-Jule Huffman - was his name George Lewis? I forget. I remember that moment but I don't remember which Mr. Cartoon it was...I guess I was so into it it was just Mr. Cartoon.Kiddconley wrote:...Seriously.. I told Jule about remembering the exact moment that I realized that Mr. Cartoon was also the weatherman. I told him it was like finding out there was no Santa. I remember that exact moment, and I am 38 years old. That just shows you that either:
a) I was a stupid kid.
b) The Red Jacket, Hat, and Huge Harry Carey Glasses were magic.
c) The show, itself was magic.....

Actually, the pie in the eye came before the yuck-it bucket. I can remember when the had the contest to name Beeper. They gave away a TV to the grand prize winner. My choice of "Big Furry Bastard" wasn't chosen...and I never got over the pain of the rejection.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
EZ,
We talked about a lot of that stuff. About how the kids who got to go did not get to actually watch the Cartoons that were airing, about how everybody and their mom played beeper (except Dave's mom who could not fit in the suit). We talked about the Beeper "Mess up the hair" routine.. and how it never lost it's entertainment value. He told me he still has a Beeper suit and the yucket bucket in his garage. lol
Dave,
Wasn't Beeper's costume just a rip-off of one of the Banana Splits Characters?

Sorry, I didn't smoke enough pot to be able to understand "Banana Splits". I do remember as a VERY young lad that "Banana Splits" was a part of Mr. Cartoon.

Mr. Cartoon was the weather guy too?
Damn you Conley! Damn you to hell!
Oh yeah, so I'm in Carolina, does that mean that chick I was bangin' over the weekend is Dave's sister in law? Or Clay's mom ( and I say mom because I don't think any of us believe he'd ever be with a woman who was not his mom)?

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
Mr. Cartoon (the weather guy) was also Captain Steamboat (Saturday Morning show).
That show featured Popeye cartoons and "Salty Bob" Hogsett (later HHS soccer coach).
Jule also did beer commercials. "Richer keener Augustiner, one of America's TWO finest beers."
Nobody ever knew what the other beer was. Probably Hudepohl.

I never thought that I would see my master and mentor.. Bob Campbell... the man who was nearly arrested for the greatest April Fool's day stunt ever (NKOTB Fake Interview).. and the mastermind behind the Vibrator Recall prank that people still talk about here...
ever .... ever ... resort to a "momma" joke.
Damn you, Dave Allen. Your influence is a pox on this board.
Genlock,
Damn I love Hudepohl. I bet it was. Wasn't Jule from Cincy? I know he went to college there.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
I think it was a composite of all the costumes. The story I heard was that all four Banana Splits costumes were ripped, torn, damaged, or were just worn out. Rather than buy up to four new costumes, it was decided to patch the functional parts of all of the costumes together and create one new mascot. I believe the hybrid character was originally nameless. An on-air contest was held where various names were submitted and "beeper" won. The name came from the squeeze-bulb style bicycle horn he carried on the show.Kiddconley wrote:Wasn't Beeper's costume just a rip-off of one of the Banana Splits Characters?

I've heard the same tale a couple times, one of them from one of the many people that played the role of beeper over the years.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
KIdd,
I think technically, it was a sister in law joke with a momma joke sidebar.
The vibrator recall was a prank?
If in doubt about beeper, ask Kennie Bass. He filled the suit on many an occasion. And of course, in Kennie's case, when I say "filled the suit", he "filled the suit".
PS Kidd, that was not a dick joke. Worry not, the Force is still strong in you. You are just too long without direction.
Listen to Nunley, then ignore him. This philosophy will serve you well.

Re: Mr. Cartoon on WMXE
For the record, those Dave highlites were so impactful that Dave's sister in law refered to him as 'that sissy with the queer hair'...she could've been refering to something else though...not too sure.
Say what you wanna say about my 'getting some outside the gene pool' ability, but allow me to present exhibit 'A':

She's the redhead...
and no...not my mother...sister, maybe...still waiting on DNA results.
Now, this, on the other hand, might totally negate what I stated above...

Why not share that...everyone else has watched it. It might give Bob some ideas...haha...oh wait.
