What a shame that 90% of the posters on this board disregard anything that has do do with Wheeling. Its amazing that one or two people, who obviously have their own agenda, can color the opinions of so many, and ruin the good things that go on in the market.
A couple of Wheeling radio truths:
1. There are some pretty good stations up here. For as small a market as it is, most everyone in the radio community actually "gets it". That goes for community involvment and putting a good product on the air.
2. WKKX had a spike in the lastest arbitron ratings period.
3. Just like the rest of the state, Wheeling is a two book market.
4. Very few people, including WKKX, do not subscribe to, and do not have access to that information.
5. Arbitron is the only qualatative information available to radio stations in the market. (Scarbrough-r.i.p, CBSI and Miller Kaplan do not exist here)
6. Some local, regional and national advertisers are savy enough to look at this information and make decisions on what they see. Not what someone is telling them. Or what they hear coming out of their radio.
This is a great board and, at times, acutally contains some useful and insightful info on media happenings in our wonderful state. Too bad the market has taken such a beating here, beacuse of some very narrow minded individuals. Some folks from Wheeling do have an opinion and might be able to add something worthwhile. Give the goods ones a chance.

Unfortunately, the Wheeling area is emblematic of most of the state. It's had some successes, such as the Highlands, but its failures are approaching legend status. Ask them about the tunnels sometime, if you dare. The aforementioned Highlands is still drawing businesses out of town.
I can't get them where I reside, and with dial-up, I'm not going to listen online. Perhaps that is how the Steubenville poster listens to them, unless he works in Wheeling. The owner is a multi-millionaire, so he has some bucks to throw its way, if he so chooses.

I think the board openly welcomes Wheeling radio and television news. But all we get is this looney, foaming-at-the-mouth "WKKX Rulz the Broadkast Werld, dude!!!!!" crapola from one or two individuals.smiller wrote:Some folks from Wheeling do have an opinion and might be able to add something worthwhile. PLEASE feel free to start any intelligent post about anything from the Wheeling broadcast market! We'd love to read it. Seriously.
Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

The Highlands isn't what's been driving business out. That dubious honor goes to the fucked up government of Wheeling that think that the B&O tax is the best fucking thing in the world.
By the way, if Wheeling folks aren't that great of people, then I guess the people down South are nothing but a bunch of fucking Jerry's kids by comparison. God, some of you are impossible.

As a proud resident of Southern WV I hope we keep this thread going. There is nothing I love more than being reminded by people from WHEELING how backwards we are.
