I understand he gave quite a lot of his time and effort to the Salvation Army. An outstanding broadcaster, loving husband and father and - by all accounts - just a decent guy. He'll be missed.

Brittany Murphy Dies

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac
arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ.

She was 32.

A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed
as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire
Department tells TMZ.

We're told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was
pronounced dead on arrival.

Murphy starred in such films as "Clueless," "8 Mile," and "Don't Say a Word."

Arnold Stang, Milquetoast Actor, Dies at 91

Arnold Stang, a character actor whose bespectacled, owlish face and nasal urban twang gave him a singular and recognizable persona, whether on radio or television, in the movies or in advertisements, or even in cartoons, died on Sunday in Newton, Mass. He was 91 and lived in Needham, Mass.

'Mister Ed' actress Connie Hines dies at age 78

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Actress Connie Hines, who played Wilbur's wife on the popular 1960s television show "Mister Ed" has died. She was 78.

Her "Mister Ed" co-star Alan Young told the Los Angeles Times that Hines died Friday at her Beverly Hills home from complications of heart problems.

Hines was best known for portraying Carol Post on the show that featured a talking horse. She wrote a section about her career in Young's 2007 book "Mister Ed and Me and More."

Born in Massachusetts, Hines also appeared in the 1960 film "Thunder in Carolina" and TV shows that included "The Millionaire," "Johnny Ringo" and "Riverboat."

Hines was married twice, the last time to Lee Savin, an entertainment lawyer and producer who died in 1995.

Folk-rocker Vic Chesnutt dies in Ga. at 45

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Vic Chesnutt, the folk-rocker whose sometimes dark reflections on life were influenced in part by a car wreck that left him paralyzed, has died. He was 45.

Family friend Christina Stuckey, who answered the phone at Chesnutt's home, confirmed the death to The Associated Press. Chesnutt's record label, Constellation Records, said in a statement on its Web site that Chesnutt died on Christmas Day, Friday.

The brief statement says "Vic transformed our sense of what true character, grace and determination are all about."

Chesnutt worked with such notable artists as R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe and guitarist Guy Picciotto of the punk band Fugazi.

Chesnutt said in a biography posted on his MySpace page that he came to "a whole new understanding of music" after the 1983 car crash.

He recently had toured with his Vic Chesnutt band, a "supergroup" of sorts featuring members of Canadian bands Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra, as well as Picciotto.

"This is a truly incredible braintrust, with all these people - we've got some of the smartest and most sensitive punk rockers out there," he told the Athens Banner-Herald for a story in October.

The rocker released two albums in the past year, including "At the Cut."

However, Chesnutt had recently struggled with a lawsuit filed by a Georgia hospital after he racked up surgery bills totaling some $70,000, the Athens newspaper reported. He said he couldn't afford more than hospitalization insurance and couldn't keep up with the payments.

The problems baffled his Canadian bandmates, Chesnutt said.

"There's nowhere else in the world that I'd be facing the situation I'm in right now. They cannot understand what kind of society would inflict that on their population," he said. "It's terrifying."

TV Producer and Executive David Gerber Dead at 86

David Gerber, an Emmy-winning producer and executive behind series such as
Batman and thirtysomething, has died, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
He was 86.

Gerber's work on the small screen dates back to the '70s in the TV
division of 20th Century Fox. Gerber's producing credits include Police
Story and Police Woman as well as TV movies as recent as 2006's Flight 93.

During his lengthy career, Gerber received a Peabody and Golden Globe as
well as accolades from the American Film Institute and the Caucus of
Producers, Writers and Directors. Following his tenure as president of the
TV division at 20th Century Fox, Gerber also served as president of the TV
divisions at Columbia Pictures and MGM. He was responsible for notable
programs such as In the Heat of the Night and Room 222, too.

Gerber — who died Saturday at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center —
hailed from Brooklyn and graduated from the University of the Pacific.
Before making a name for himself in Hollywood, Gerber served in World War
II in the U.S. Air Corps and was held as a prisoner of war for 13 months.

Gerber is survived by his wife, Laraine.

whose bendable creation Gumby became a pop culture phenomenon through decades of toys, revivals and satires, died Friday.
He was 88.
Clokey, who suffered from repeated bladder infections, died in his sleep at his home in Los Osos on California's Central Coast,
