Geauga Lake park closing after 119 years

AURORA, Ohio - Cedar Fair announced Friday that it is closing down Geauga Lake's amusement rides for good. "The market demand simply isn't there to support the park in its current structure," Cedar Fair spokeswoman Stacy Frole said.

Wildwater Kingdom, the $25 million water park Cedar Fair built on the south side of the lake, has been a popular attraction and will continue. Cedar Fair CEO Dick Kinzel said in a statement, "Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom has been recognized as one of the finest water parks in the country. Since its opening in 2005, Wildwater Kingdom has been the park's highest-rated attribute."

No word yet on the fate of the rides themselves on the 119-year-old amusement park's north side of the lake. Frole said some will be moved to other Cedar Fair parks. Cedar Fair owns Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky.

I hate to hear that, geauga was a great mid-sized park.

This was predicted when they acquired the Paramount parks and then relocated Geauga Lake's newest roller coaster, X-Flight, to Kings Island.
