crosstalk issues....

So I had to go to southern WV earlier today and an interesting thing occured... I'm kinda blind when it comes to the rules of radio, as compared to television but the people at wklc may want to look into an interference issue. When I got roughly past "6 mile road" on my way into Logan a country station starting cutting over rock 105, I checked the dial like 3 clicks each way and there was no country station coming in on any other spot on the dial. I kinda noticed it barely fading in a couple weeks ago but today it straight up overpowered wklc's signal, the closer I got to Logan though the weaker it became till all i got was wklc.

so the big question is either:

A.) wierd phenomenae occuring in northern Logan county..

or

B.) theres a pirate operation down there....

or

C.) i need a refresher course in radio...

There are at least 2 correct choices, maybe.....

Rock 105 is not omni directional. The large bulk of the tv tower will cause nulls, some very deep, in
the WKLC coverage. What you might of heard is simply a distant station. Next time get an ID on the station
or stay out of Logan county. Because the tower has multiple elements, there will be multiple nulls.
Where is the nearest station on 2nd adjacent or 3rd adjacent to 105.1? May even be on 105.1 as conditions have been
up this week. Jay knows about it as Jay knows everything.

I have heard WUBE 105.1FM, Cincinnati in the Chesapeake OH area when conditions were right.

A solution to this type of problem is top mounting.
Can't do that as TV has the top.
Well, then a solution would be a panel type antenna,
one panel on each flat face of the tower.
Properly designed, it's omni-directional.
Kinda expensive tho. Used in big markets where coverage is important.
Weigh coverage improvement vs. cost of antenna. (answer will be in dollars of increased sales/profit)

2. WTUK, Harlan, Ky, "Wild Country" 105. Harlan is 90- miles SW of Logan, near the Tennessee border.

3. County officials have, in response to local requests, erected a "rock filter" sucking out the signal of all those stations playing the "devil's music."

For what its worth WVOW-FM (in Logan) went off the air at around 9:20 am Monday morning as of now (7:35am Tuesday) hasn't returned. I don't know what is going on since if they explained it to me I probably wouldn't understand it, anyway. WVOW 1290 AM is still on, however. If it was me that was talking over Nunley's little rock station, I'm sorry. I will try to speak more softly next time.

I was cruising on I64 jamming to some Van Halen or something on 107.5. I thought we had a new station before I realized I was picking up someones' jacked up XM transmitter.

I seen those on the big Houston sticks... Didn't know they were actual antennas. I thought they were solar panels or something.

Don't know how wind resistant they are, though. Even though the towers stood, I heard that Ike ripped a few antennas right off the towers last year.

I laughed it off until I found out how many people around here still actually thinks like this.

I suggest radomes on these antennas to keep ICE from damaging them.
Radomes will increase wind load and the tower must be engineered for the extra stress.
Radomes is pretty.
