2017 Notable Deaths: Remembrance thread
William Christopher, the actor who played mild-mannered Father Francis Mulcahy on the hit television series “M.A.S.H.,” died Saturday at age 84.
Christopher died in his Pasadena, Calif., home of nonlung small cell carcinoma, his eldest son, John Christopher, told the Los Angeles Times. The actor played the role of Father Mulcahy from 1972 to 1983 and in the follow-up series “After M.A.S.H.” from 1983 to 1985.

Being an only child, I've always claimed to have "nine brothers".
Four of them were in The Monkees and five of them were in Mott the Hoople.
Basically one of my "brothers" has passed away...

Actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away Wednesday, her publicist said.
She was 80 years old and had battled diabetes for decades.
"A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile," her publicist Mara Buxbaum said.

Mike Connors, who took a punch as well as anyone while playing the good-guy private detective on the long-running Saturday night action series Mannix for CBS, has died. He was 91.
A former basketball player for legendary coach John Wooden at UCLA, Connors died Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. No other details were immediately available.
Mannix, the last series from Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s famed TV company Desilu Productions to air, ran for eight seasons from September 1967 until April 1975. Created by Richard Levinson and William Link and developed by executive producer Bruce Geller (Mission: Impossible), the hit show featured an electric theme from jazz great Lalo Schifrin and starred Connors as a noble Korean War veteran.

Sir John Hurt, who won Oscar nominations for the Elephant Man and captured the hearts of millions for his roles in Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, has died.
The star, one of Britain's most treasured actors, died aged 77 at his home in Norfolk after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, it was revealed today.

Legendary jazz singer Al Jarreau died early Sunday morning two weeks after being hospitalized due to exhaustion and later cancelling his 2017 tour. He was 76.

George "The Animal" Steele, a pro wrestling icon and WWE Hall of Famer, has died at 79. WWE confirmed the news Friday.
Steele turned pro in 1967 and was best known for his run as a comical babyface attraction in the final years before his 1988 retirement. With his hairy upper body, bald head and green tongue, Steele became one of the most recognizable characters for the WWE -- then known as WWF -- during its national expansion in the mid-1980s, thanks to his penchant for biting open and chewing on the turnbuckle pads.

Ivan 'The Russian Bear' Koloff, the famed villainous professional wrestler who once held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship, has died. He was 74.
Koloff, a resident of Montreal, had suffered from liver disease for a decade, and his health had recently been in sharp decline, his wife revealed earlier this month in an interview with the Post and Courier.

Don Rickles, comedy legend, dead at 90
Comedy legend and actor Don Rickles died Thursday morning of kidney failure, Fox News has confirmed. He was 90 years old.
"Emmy-award winning iconic comedian Don Rickles passed away at his home Los Angeles this morning (Thursday) as a result of kidney failure," his rep said in a statement. "Rickles would have turned 91 on May 8."

Sir Roger Moore has died aged 89.
A statement was released today on the James Bond star's Twitter account by his family.
It read: "With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated."
He died in Switzerland after a short battle with cancer.
The London-born star is best known for playing famous secret agent 007.
He starred in seven Bond movies between 1973 and 1985.
Before his glittering movie career, Sir Roger served in the Royal Army Service Corps as a second lieutenant, after being conscripted for national service shortly after the end of the Second World War.

Gregg Allman, the singer, musician and songwriter who played an essential role in the invention of Southern rock, has died at the age of 69. Allman's rep confirmed to Rolling Stone that the artist died Saturday afternoon.

Adam West, the ardent actor who managed to keep his tongue in cheek while wearing the iconic cowl of the Caped Crusader on the classic 1960s series Batman, has died. He was 88.
