The station manager of WOWK-TV in Charleston was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday morning.
John Michael Fawcett, 47, of Winfield, ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. 35 and the St. Albans exit of Interstate 64, said West Virginia State Trooper J.P. Murphy.
Fawcett was originally pulled over for running the red light and failed a field sobriety test, Murphy said. He was arrested for DUI and transported for an intoximeter test. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.158, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08, Murphy said. Fawcett was transported to the Western Regional Jail, Murphy said.

I think I figured it out!!!!
Mark is a "Hero!!!"
Mark Hallburn is like Nikki...sweet, cuddly and lovable. You could eat him with a spoon.
But like Nikki, Mark has a darkside, named 1015RiverRat. Whenever Mark looks into a mirror or has a crisis...out comes his unstoppable darkside, 1015RiverRat.
It goes something like this:
Mark looks into a mirror after someone calls him a dickhead...
Mark: I wish I was in radio. Guess I'm just not good enough, oh well, I have this awesome news site!
101RiverRat: Who are you kidding? Radio NEEDS you!! Go on WVBroadcasting.net and wreck havoc on those who either fired or would never hire you.
Mark: I can't....I....have a wife...
101RiverRat: You pussy!!! I guess I'm gonna have to take over...
Mark: You can't....no....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
1015RiverRat: Now, let's log onto WVBroadcasting.net and show these puny little mice what REAL radio talent and news broadcasting REALLY is!!

Oops
No argument Hallburn is a dick. But you see Fawcett's arrest picture? He's no sunshine either. Here's the million dollar question -- was that a company car he was driving? What an ass.

Doesn't MSNBC stand for the Media that Spins the News for Barrack's Cabinet?

at WOWK the management believe they can do no wrong. just look at their id's listing Charleston first instead of Huntington. they want to be a Charleston station and have always wanted it that way. thinking if they say it often enough it will be, but the FCC dosen't look at it that way. but we have no FCC person around to check on things.

I am not legally inclined, but it seems to me the question is, are they identifying themselves as Charleston/Huntington on their LEGAL ID or just everywhere else? As long as they run a visible legal ID, in the lower 1/3 of the screen, that simply states calls and COL, they are legal. The rest of the time, they can say WOWK New York/Los Angeles if it fancies them.oldtvman2 wrote:at WOWK the management believe they can do no wrong. just look at their id's listing Charleston first instead of Huntington. they want to be a Charleston station and have always wanted it that way. thinking if they say it often enough it will be, but the FCC doesn't look at it that way. but we have no FCC person around to check on things.
It reminds me of WBVB. They are licensed to Coal Grove so they used to run a 2 second legal in the :50 break that simply said "WBVB Coal Grove." Then at the top of the hour, they would leave out the calls and identify with the typical Huntington/Ashland/Ironton slogan.
Again, I ain't no lawyer so I could be wrong.

only thing required on their 'legal' id's is "wowk-tv/dt" they could list any city of their choosing, the call letters and signal versions are all thats required by law for television..

(b) Content. (1) Official station identification shall consist of
the station's call letters immediately followed by the community or
communities specified in its license as the station's location;
Provided, That the name of the licensee, the station's frequency, the
station's channel number, as stated on the station's license, and/or the
station's network affiliation may be inserted between the call letters
and station location. DTV stations choosing to include the station's
channel number in the station identification must use the station's
major channel number and may distinguish multicast program streams. For
example, a station with major channel number 26 may use 26.1 to identify
an HDTV program service and 26.2 to identify an SDTV program service. No
other insertion between the station's call letters and the community or
communities specified in its license is permissible.
