Celeb stalking
This is the Lindsay Lohan accident video
The reason I post it is because I really wonder why some of you think that what happens to her (being followed by the press) is ok because it "comes with the job."
Granted, LiLo HAS brought a lot of attention to herself. Get drunk and do stupid stuff enough times in public and more cameras will follow.
I guess I can see why celebs get pissed off at the photogs. No one can be perfect 24/7. It's just not possible. I mean, how fair or right is it that John Travolta catches shit just for eating his food? It's just bullshit. The dude is chewing for god's sake.
I dunno...maybe it's just me being sick of this society where we care so little about important things and so much about little things.

There are so many celebrities who aren't photographed doing stupid stuff, mostly because they don't do stupid stuff. When was the last time you saw a Smoking Gun or TMZ video of, say, Prince drinking until he passes out and falls out of his chauffeur-driven vehicle? Or doing lines of gak in the shape of Nevada off the top of a Mexican midget's yoda mask? He keeps himself to himself and even if he does do that crap, he certainly makes sure he does it in privacy. I can't even tell you the last time he ponced up and down a red carpet, answering stupid questions like "who are you wearing?"
The John Travolta thing... well, it's silly, yeah. But he's a public figure. For a big house, the big bank balance, a private jet and my own runway, Jimmy Snapsalot can take as many pictures of me eating as he wants, any time he likes. I'm willing to bet that I look even funnier munching on a taco than Travolta did. Hell, if it means financial stability for my family and the gold key to zeitgeist, I'll even wave and smile whilst I have a bit of spinach on my teeth.
Oh Boethius, thy wheel of fortune spinneth. Lohan's biggest problem is her ego. She wants - nay, needs - to be photographed because it prevents her from falling into the vast hole of obscurity that she should have fallen into a long time ago. This sort of stuff keeps her in magazines and on celebrity websites, it keeps her culturally relevant and that, in turn, feeds the publicity monster when she makes one of her POS movies which then bolsters the bank balance. I've said it before and I'll say it again; she, like so many others, are more than happy to have cameras follow them around and snap pictures when it suits them. But woe betide the guy whose job it is to take pictures of celebrities when he snaps an unflattering picture or gets some unflattering video. The trick to avoiding it is simple... don't do stupid stuff. If you don't do stupid stuff, you won't get photographed doing stupid stuff.
The problem with that specific clip is that we didn't actually see what happened. What we saw was the photographer tenaciously following the story, keeping a reasonable distance and backing off when asked to. Jump cut to a car sitting off the road and Lohan running away. What caused the crash? We don't see. If the photographer ran them off the road, fair game. That's too much. If the car crashed because of incompetent driving, then I fail to see who, other than the driver, is at fault. Given that the shot from the camera starts from a good bit away and moves towards the crash site, I'm willing to bet it was the latter. Let's not forget the lessons learned by the Diana situation where the press were called all the names under the sun and blamed for the crash when... oops! Maybe it was the driver who was three times the legal limit and on a myriad of prescription drugs that had something to do with the accident! Imagine if Henri Paul had taken his time driving (or they had a more responsible driver). She'd still be alive today, to visit who knows how many of life's poor and unfortunate in her dresses that cost more than the average household makes in three lifetimes, and everyone would be happy.
Lohan and her ilk need to learn that so long as they put themselves in the spotlight and enjoy the benefits thereof, they have to deal with the less convenient side of it, too. If they don't like it, they can stop appearing in movies/making music/going to red carpet events. You'll notice she was quite happy to smile for the cameras beforehand. If you want the benefits of owning a cat, you've got to clean the litterbox. If you enjoy having a pool, you have to degunk it after winter and mess with the chemicals. If you want to screw an insanely hot chick you have to pay her or, if you're not me, deal with her crazy-ass crap or jealous ex or weird friends or moodswings. Every enjoyable, beneficial pastime has drawbacks. Some large, some small.

Very true, but how do we change it? I know I'm not buying the magazines or visiting TMZ. And if I patronise an advertiser affiliated with Entertainment Tonight, it's purely co-inkydink and not by design. Maybe we need to cull teenage girls, gay men and menopausal women...*Bob Loblaw wrote:I dunno...maybe it's just me being sick of this society where we care so little about important things and so much about little things.

Actress Lindsay Lohan has checked into rehab following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence after a car accident at the weekend.
Police said a "useable" amount of a substance thought to be cocaine was found in Lohan's car during her arrest.

I'd be willing to bet he gets snapped more for the Scientology thing (and possible Gay thing) than for any other reason.SPIKE NESMITH! wrote:The John Travolta thing... well, it's silly, yeah. That being said though, there's just something about "Look at what a fat pig John Travolta is" that just bothers me to the core. If that happened to me on a regular basis, I'd start punchin some bitch-ass photogs too.
Agreed. But that's not my point. My point is that they're either a) waiting for you to do something stupid or b) hoping they'll snap a photo where a bullshit story or question (a la Perez or PITNB) can make it LOOK like you're doing something.SPIKE NESMITH! wrote:The trick to avoiding it is simple... don't do stupid stuff. Again, them taking their shots after the crash is (shudder) nothing different than I would expect from any news crew. I was/am more disturbed by how hounded she (and others are) just because they're doing the normal day to day things (specifically, the video leading up to the crash).SPIKE NESMITH! wrote:The problem with that specific clip is that we didn't actually see what happened. And that's where I'm guilty. But I'm guilty by nature of the job. I don't WANT or CARE to know about LiLo wrecking her shit. She's a young adult who's going through young adult shit (albeit with a LOT more disposable cash). I dunno how to change it. Maybe I'm just bitching to bitch. Or maybe I'm trying to raise awareness of how evil this shit really is.SPIKE NESMITH! wrote:Very true, but how do we change it? I know I'm not buying the magazines or visiting TMZ. All I know is that we're not far away from websites devoted to random people doing stupid shit.
Like YouTube, but only you didn't give permission to be filmed.

Ideally, you'd need to see a bottom-up phenomenon....otherwise, you're talking a top-down conspiracy of sorts.....
"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"
"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"

You should start punchin' bitch-ass photogs even if they don't provoke you just because it's fun.Bob Loblaw wrote: If that happened to me on a regular basis, I'd start punchin some bitch-ass photogs too.
While I have little sympathy for people who became celebrities intentionally I think they should have some privacy.
My biggest concern is this celebrity obsession that has been woven into our culture. I think it is indicative of a number of problems at the core of our national existence.
On the other hand, fuck 'em. You can't have it both ways. If you wanna get rich off being famous you can't bitch about being famous.

This expands upon what Spike said about Prince, etc. If you aren't prone to doing stupid shit for the camera, the camera will stop following you.
As for Travolta, that looks like some numbnut at a picnic that went "Look, honey... John Travolta!" snapped a shitload of pictures with his digital camera and made some money off an Internet rag by selling them. I think true paparazzi would be more interested in Kelly without makeup.
