With an air rifle?

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

With an air rifle?

Post by genlock »

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Celebrated tenor Jerry Hadley was taken off life support Monday, nearly a week after an apparent suicide attempt left him with a severe brain injury.

The 55-year-old singer shot himself with an air rifle last Tuesday at his Clinton Corners home, several miles outside Poughkeepsie, according to state police. State troopers found him unconscious on his bedroom floor and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Can you reach the trigger while the end of the barrel is against the head?

I guess it might me possible. Actor Jon-Erik Hexum shot himself with a blank from a prop gun and ended up dead. From IMDB.com:

"However, on October 12th, 1984 after a long and draining day's shooting on the set of Cover Up (1984) (TV), Hexum became bored with the extensive delays and jokingly put a prop .44 magnum revolver to his temple and pulled the trigger. The gun fired, and the wadding from the blank cartridge shattered his skull, whereupon the mortally injured Hexum was rushed via ambulance to hospital to undergo extensive surgery. Despite five hours of work, the chief surgeon Dr David Ditsworth, described the damage to Hexum's brain as life ending, and one week later on October 18th, he was taken off life support and pronounced dead. However, Hexum's commitment to organ donation, meant five other lives were assisted or saved with organs harvested from him. The youthful & charming Hexum was dead at only 26 years of age."
"Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I'm not there, I go to work."

Wadding from a blank round can be dangerous at several feet.
I wonder why the opera guy couldn't have found a .22 pistol somewhere?
Much better and easier to not become a vegetable.

This brought to mind the accidental death of actor Jon-Erik Hexum, who died in October 1984 after shooting himself in the head with a prop gun loaded with blanks on the set of the CBS series Cover Up.

an air rifle with enough pressure could definitely do the job, but you're not gonna be able to get one with THAT kinda force....

I used to have a pellet gun that you were supposed to pump three times and fire.

At 12 it had the same short term punch as a .22, which will kill you quite dead. Although that is a hell of risk to take if you're really trying to kill yourself.

Hey, thanks for that name. I just discovered that the complete series of Voyagers is available on DVD! The best show about time warps. Beat StarGate all to pieces.
