Nah....I'm pretty sure Michael has his limitations, and I can't fault anyone for such. I fault folks who can think and learn but chose -- and continue choosing -- not to. It might surprise many to know that one of my closest friends is a person with cerebral palsy who has frequent difficulty in constructing sentences that convey thoughts and feelings (describing activities and events is much easier).

By the way, while MySpace might be over (I never got it in the first place) and Facebook might be heading in that direction (that kid really should have sold!), social networking is just now coming to the niches, usages, and niched usages where it might find its greatest value yet....

While MySpace is definitely yesterday's news, it is far from over. They've been tweaking like crazy the past few months to make it more like Facebook.

Facebook is very different from MySpace, in the sense that it's more personal. People know you by your real name, whereas on MS you can be anyone you want to be, and even have a thousand "friends" who happen to be mostly bands and fake celebrities...

FB also allows third party aps now. This has increased its functionality, and at the same time increased its annoyance level.

But yeah, I agree this whole social networking thing is still shaking itself out. The MS "revolution" will be an interesting chapter in internet history, but there are aps being developed now that will take social networking to a whole new level in a couple of years.

The recent emergence of Twitter will be another piece of the pie.

Back in the 90's, there was a website I belonged to that I rather enjoyed. It was PlanetAll.com. You could join groups based on schools you went to (Morris Harvey College, WVU, Charleston High School), clubs you were a member of (Lions Club, Jaycees, Boy Scouts), and jobs (IBM, Chrysler, McDonalds). You got to meet some people in similar jobs across the country and possibly around the world. Then, near the end of the decade, Amazon bought up the site and eventually ended it. I would like to see a similar site again. Not to fond of Classmates and similar sites.

Twitter reminds me of Joost. There is this huge Joost buzz right now. Everyone wants an invite. I signed up 6 months ago, logged in, looked around, logged out, and I'm done with it.

They don't have anything that you can't find on YouTube.

Basically, you have followers, and you follow other people on Twitter. It's like a real-time, "what am I doing now?" type thing. Your message goes out to everyone following you instantly, and you get their messages as well. It's also very easy to use Twitter via text, which is how I use it most of the time.

Granted, there are a lot of "I'm eating refried beans right now" messages, but this ap can be very useful for more important things.

It would also be a great way for a radio station to send instant info and updates to listeners who choose to opt in. The only downside may be giving Twitter all of that free publicity...
