A Thought About "The Singing Bee"

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

A Thought About "The Singing Bee"

Post by lastone »

It occured to me while listening to "Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology) by Marvin Gaye that different artists sing the same songs but with changed words. In this song Gaye sings ...."poison is the wind that blows, from the North and South and East....". A later Robert Palmer version sings ...."from the North, South , West and East..." .

So my question is, what version of the lyrics do they use? The featured songs hit singer's or the writers? I can see where a contestant could sing it wrong but still be right!

There is no originality.

I've decided to name all shows I don't like "The Douchebag Show for Douchebags," even if that means people who are not douchebags end up getting in the mix.

I watched 5 minutes of The Douchebag Shows for Douchebags while at my mother's house a few weeks ago.

Two observations...

I'm amazed by some of the contestants recall of lyrics.

I'm amazed at how much shitty music people love (this is not new).

But, to be fair, you don't have to like the music to retain lyrics you've heard a million times on the radio, nor do you have to like doing something in order to win money.

You do have to be a special kind of douchebag to make an utter arsehole of yourself on national TV. I'll give you that.

Just watch Ice Road Truckers, Burn Notice, or any of the other (and better) summer series and quit gripin'.....

...or Anchorwoman!

The funniest lines: any and all by Annalisa that start out, "As a journalist,..."

Close second: "Ed Murrow is spinning in his grave." Good grief, you "journalists" -- you're filling up your news with potholes!
"I don't know the same things you don't know."

"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"

`Anchorwoman' Canceled After One Airing
Aug 23, 7:28 PM (ET)

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Here's news that Fox's series "Anchorwoman" wouldn't want to deliver: It's been canceled after one low-rated airing.

The debut of the reality show about Lauren Jones' attempt to turn herself into a news anchor for a Texas TV station drew an estimated 2.7 million viewers Wednesday, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research.

I had issues with this show for the fact that they had a Steve Miller's THe Joker in which one album version uses the word "summer" and another ablum version uses "sun."

Considering that I was the only one in the room (I was watching the show with about 8 friends) that got the words on the song right and I am the only one who owns the Greastest Hits 1974-1978, I assume they used this song version.

I am glad the song was not Jet Airliner because I have "funky kicks" but typically sing "funky $hit" because that is the version I originally learned. (Props to Lester for pointing that out to me at 5 Corners Pub in Charleston.)

That's a damn good show. I am still catching up. I picked up the series half-way through the season and I still haven't seen the first group of episodes.

See it all right from the beginning....it starts all over this Sunday, and I just might watch it again.

It was interesting and entertaining (and a heckuva learning experience) all by itself, but I found it just a little more interesting because I know one of the relatively few geological/geotechnical engineers licensed to design for that super-cold environment (although I think his work has been only in Alaska so far).
