This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.
WNBC-TV (CHANNEL 4)/NEW YORK is reporting that CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU/NEW YORK has dropped the syndicated "Wake Up With WHOOPI" show with WHOOPI GOLDBERG. THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS writes a memo was circulated to the WKTU staff late YESTERDAY saying the station would stop carrying the show as of this morning.
Overnighter BARTEL is filling in this morning, largely playing music.
This would be the third major-market defection from the show in just over a month. CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WISX (MY 106.1)/PHILADELPHIA dropped the program on NOVEMBER 9th (NET NEWS 11/9) and CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLIT (LITE FM)/CHICAGO pulled the plug on OCTOBER 19th (NET NEWS 10/19).
"Wake Up With WHOOPI, " syndicated by PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS, remains on the air in nine other markets this morning -- but for how long?
I am. KISS FM in Raleigh runs it, and it's really good. I'd hate to see it tank (although I don't know if her new job at The View has taken a toll on the radio program).
I agree Lester. Although I have not heard her show; I am assuming the cancellations have more to do with her having to devote so much time to The View.
As for the show, they may have to VT the show and tape it at a different time than during the morning drive due to Whoopi's schedule. Because NYC is a union market for CC, then KTU would not be allowed to air the program during the morning drive without the talent being live. I think the only exception to that rule is Sunday mornings when satellite fed show dominate the dial until 10:00 am.
As for Cubby, he will do just fine because CC's NYC Cluster will put him back into a drive time slot on one of their many sticks. Great Jock and a hard worker in the business.

The show's teases almost have to be the most compelling going (primarily based on the content they're bringing), and it's fascinating that the show is being used in every daypart (I'm pretty sure it's on somewhere every one of the 168 hours in the week), in multiple dayparts on the same stations, and, in some cases, at multiple stations within a single market.
"Intelligence For Life" means "added-value for listening." With most of radio, you gain little-to-nothing by listening and lose nothing when not listening; the opposite is true with Tesh.
"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"
"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"

Not true. The show is a Premiere property and falls under Syndication (Which is how Delilah can air on Lite).
Whoopi & Cubby still continue their show...just without a NYC home.
BTW, you're prob dead right about tracking the show ahead of time. But you would be SURPRISED how many "live" syndicated shows do that now.
