In Colorado Springs today, A gunman opened fire on people exiting a very large church. This may be the same gunman who killed two in Arvada, Co, some 70 miles to the north. The gunman was stopped when a security guard at the church shot the gunman. Has anybody ever been to a church where there were security guards? Much less armed guards?

My grandfather always carried a 38 special to church just in case something like that happened.

I think the laws should be re-written to force all willing Americans to carry concealed deadly weapons. That would level the playing field.

Yes; my church has security systems and people. Some are visible (guys in particular shirts, for example), and some are not. I've heard that some of the people carry tasers and, especially given the number of current and previous police officers and agents we have or have had over the years, wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a couple had guns; I don't know either of those for sure, though. All are issued radios when they serve, and anywhere in the facility can be "swarmed" within seconds.

We have an almost-invisible camera system (all recorded), door sensors, window sensors, motion sensors, heat sensors, physical locks, electronic locks....all the stuff necessary to keep the property and the people and stuff inside it (and outside it, too) as secure as reasonably possible. Certain doors are open at certain times and closed at others; certain areas have only one way in with controlled access; women and/or children are never alone in the facility at any time of day; parking lots are walked during the services (in addition to seriously deterring criminals, that keeps marketers and politicians away, too!). Things like that....generally speaking, though, you'd never notice any of it.

Churches nationwide started upping their game in that department when the thing in Dallas happened, but such events, as horrific as they are, are not the primary reason for and focus of security people in church. The primary reason today is the safety of children -- in today's big, modern church, the likelihood of someone getting out with a child that is not his or hers is just about zero....if you were to go, it would probably be far and away the safest place your child would be all week.
