did i read that wrong or do i know nothing about the "business" of tv. i read it as the locals weren't gonna be able to air the game. only the nfl network was going to air it. now they've given these stations the opportunity to air these high profile games with a guaranteed audience. if i were these stations i'd be salivating at the sales opportunity. and as far as the audience, not everyone has the extended tiers of cable to be able to see the nfl network, so with their coverage being on local OTA stations... that's a good thing right?

i don't see bad in any of this. unless of course, i'm completely blind to the "business" of television....

i'll grab a beer and slink back into my radio studio with Gn'R CRANKED UP!!!!!

Well, the local station in NY that gets to show the game is not the one that owns the rights to local broadcasts. That's the pisser.

With the games on the NFL Network, assuming that the game has sold out prior to the 72-hour deadline, a local station in each of the two home markets will carry the NFL Network feed over-the-air.

Well, there already was one in the home markets. Now, there will also be the CBS and NBC stations in addition to whichever local had made the deal with the NFL Network in each of the home markets, making four possible outlets there.

if i were these stations i'd be salivating at the sales opportunity.

Well, you just went from being the one-and-only local to being one of three!

I heard that some Washington politicians got ticked that they wouldn't be able to see the game in their home markets, and threatened the NFL with anti-trust legislation if they didn't make this game more widely available.

I don't have a problem with it. It's a win for the consumer, for a change...

Exactly, which is why it's quite the kick to the pills for WWOR. Imagine having the sole broadcast TV rights to a 10-5 Giants vs. 15-0 Patriots game in prime time in NYC... and then find out a week out from the game that WCBS-TV and WABC-TV will also be carrying the exact same feed.

It had to be a nightmare for the WWOR sales crew.

Meanwhile, in Boston, the Patriots-Giants game will be shown on all three network-affiliated stations: WCVB (ABC) had the rights to air the game for the benefit of those who don't have cable TV, but, with the NFL decision, WHDH (NBC) & WBZ (CBS) will also air it.

I had NFLN already thanks to Dish Network...but I'll be off calling high school basketball instead. Sadly, the HS game will probably be more competitive.

In Philly, WPVI ABC-6 has the rights, but the games typically air the FOX and CBS affiliates. The only time ABC airs a game in Philly is when it is on ESPN Monday night football.
