WTBZ audio problem

I was in the Grafton area Thursday and hit the seek button on my radio and it stopped at 1260 (WTBZ) but I couldn't hear anything till I cranked up my radio. After a little bit a spot then played that blew out my ear drums and then the next thing was way low again. Do they have this problem all the time?

Yes. It's been this way for about a year now. They are using the Dial Global rhythmic a/c feed when I've heard them, or from what I could hear. I doubt much will be done with 1260, as they will be moving down a few frequencies soon.

Care to place bets on who will fix their audio sooner, WTBZ or the "telephone hold music" quality audio on 1340 or 1400?

I must say, 100.3 has never sounded better...I don't know about the longevity of a format like that, but, Al has everything else, so why not! I forgot how strong that signal was...wow. Honestly, I haven't heard the AMs for some time...AM frustrates me anymore.

My bets on WTBZ... Burbach doesn't care about those two AM's unfortunately. If I remember correctly AM 1400 WOBG doesn't even operate at its full power of 1,000 watts (at least it didn't when I was there).

Sorry I should have clarified that... WXKX 1340 and WOBG 1400 are owned by Burbach. WTBZ 1260 is owned by Steve Tocco and I believe him and his wife are in VA. BOB says he plays anything... but WTBZ really does play anything... last time I heard it they were playing TOP 40, bluegrass, oldies, and jazz.

Wasn't Z-96 broadcast in mono? I remember before they were sold to K-Love... they went Stereo & became "95.9 Z Country" and were satellite fed. Its amazing how the Good Lord can fix horrible audio, when they became K-Love the audio greatly improved. I used to get aggravated with 95.9 because I liked the then Variety 96 WVTY (96.1) in Pittsburgh & 95.9 used to bleed over.

It was in mono forever then I remember it being in stereo for a time when it was local.

I was board monkeying the broadcast of the Grafton High state football championship victory over the Man Hillbillies in 1984....and...that's it. No story about it.

Okay, it may have happened at my vast estate in Blueville.
But here's a true story: We'd feature a "new album of the week" from the Music Box in Bridgeport each week. I'd play all of side 1, play a Music Box commercial while flipping the album and play side 2. One night, I was playing that Deep Purple album, the one with "In Through The Back Door" and it's oh so subtle line "...he was a common, cunning linguist, a master of many tongues", and during side 1, I went to Luigi's over the bridge, downed a pitcher of beer and got back in time to flip the album. Of course, I went back during side 2. I can't believe I didn't take my $3.35/hr wage more seriously.

I was the one that originally got Builder's Center on the air.

I was also told:

"you're okay on the radio, but I need somebody that can sell.
ANYBODY can talk on the radio, but it takes a special person to sell!!!!!!"

And it was Tom F. that told me that.
