I didn't want to imply that Summit was a candidate. I was just sayin' that they had to figure on one tor two larger groups swooping into Beckley so they would have to go beyond 97.1 now or never.Airwaves wrote:So Shane is going to let the Empire go? Is he wanting to sell & do something else or just kick back and retire? Are we talking Summitt, Clear Channel, WVRadio as the potential buyers? ....or is it a fire sale where the pieces are sold off to the highest bidder? Goodness!

I understand we are talking about Southern, but who is buying them?
When I had worked with Greer, he had made it well known that he wanted to grow in Beck-town, but nothing ever came of it.

Re: The Southern Empire....
Who is gonna "swoop" into that market?
Maybe there's a good reason why Southern is folding... Local economics being a major factor?
CC is out. CBS has zero interest in markets below #20. Citadel is still restructuring. Entercom wouldn't be interested. Cumulus is not in buying mode now.
This leaves regional players in the running.
I wonder if they're trying to sell the entire cluster? Of if they'll let companies pick and choose the sticks?

If you didn't sell the entire cluster, someone would cherry pick the good properties and leave you with the 1kw daytimers and such. You might be able to sell them to American family radio or some such but maybe not. Maybe Raese is waiting for the economic picture to get worse before he offers.
