HUNTINGTON -- SuddenLink Communications and Marshall University are teaming up to provide SuddenLink customers with Marshall programming.


The partnership starts today, and the mostly student-produced programming will run throughout the school year and feature campus news, information and a variety show.

Programs features will be “We Are Marshall Today,” “Up Late” and “MU Report.”


“This programming gives Marshall University journalism students a huge electronic platform to hone their skills as journalists,” said Dr. Corley Dennison, dean of Marshall University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications. “We could not be happier with this relationship with Suddenlink. Students, faculty and staff located at our South Charleston and Point Pleasant campuses will benefit from programming on their home cable systems and thousands of viewers will be updated on Marshall University weekly.”


The programs will air in the following Suddenlink markets:


Channel 22 in Beckley, Princeton, Lewisburg, Narrows, Charleston, Milton, Hurricane, Teays Valley, St. Albans, Cross Lanes, Nitro, Wayne, Logan, Kermit, Williamson and Prestonburg and Paintsville, Ky.


Channel 19 in Parkersburg, Marietta, Vienna, Williamstown, St. Mary’s, Spencer, Point Pleasant, Jackson County, Wirt County, New Martinsville and Pomeroy and Gallipolis, Ohio.


“We Are Marshall Today” features University newsmakers and highlights news from Marshall’s three campuses. The show is a collaborative effort among University Communications, Instructional Television Video Services (ITVS) and the Marshall University School of Journalism and Mass Communications.


“Up Late” is a student-produced show which grew out of Marshall’s Introduction to Video Production class taught by instructors Jamie LoFiego and Eric Himes, who both work with Marshall’s ITVS. It is produced entirely by students and has a late-night show quality featuring interviews, skits, ridiculous stunts, guest bands and comedy.


“MU Report” is a student-produced television newscast featuring news, sports and other university information. It is a weekly production produced by broadcast journalism students.
