I'm not rock PD...in fact I'm no PD. I've been arrested by the PD, but that's another story. I would think that programmers are only reacting to what a great deal of their listeners want. NIckelback, love 'em or hate 'em, are one of the top selling groups out there..have been for serveral years. I'm not a fan, either, but is it what it is, you know? They are no worse than other comperable artists from back in the day (Foreigner, Loverboy, Journey, etc).

While it might be possible for Nickelback to have a few fans, I believe the majority of their album sales and bandwagon fan base can be attributed to the over saturation of Nickelback on the radio.

Therefore, if radio would simply STOP playing this garbage, it would go away on its own. The same holds true for that piece of shit Pink song, also called Rockstar.

3. I'm begging you guys. Really. I'm begging. Please get yourselves a PD gig at one or all of my competitors and only play good music instead of popular music. Also, please base your playlist on personal taste, fierce musical integrity, diversity, and holding to the mission of playing only music that meets specific standards of quality that you made up for yourself. Seriously. I'm begging you to do that.

6. Be sure to add fringe rock elements into your programming. This should include lots of local bands, obscure bands and tracks, and several features including a metal show, an industrial show, a blues show, and a Grateful Dead Underground show. Of course, if you were any kind of serious programmer you would put that music into regular rotation, but since you guys are so corporate and so fearful of programming outside of the formatic box you probably won't do it.

I think the point I'm at least trying to make is that after a certain amount of time rotations feel repetitive and forced. Same is to be said in television when it comes to dealing with viewers. Every now and then it can be good to take the spoon and stir the bowl every now and then is how i'll say it. Not just rock but all formats.

So anyway, I think what fearpeddler means is to mix it up more. There's a monumental library of rock hits from the 70s-present that hardly get any airplay, if at all. The 80s are hardly represented in rock radio...at least around here. Alot of the 80s bands had more hits than what's played on the radio nowadays. Heck, alot of the 70s rock bands had more hits than what's played on the radio now. With that many songs at one's disposal there should be no need to play the same songs every two hours.

My problem isn't that Nickelsuck is played so much....my question is WHY is it played so much? Why do people like this band?? And why is Hinder so popular?

It's easy for one to play armchair PD...but dude...why the oversaturation of crap??

Very true. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut Alice in Chains kicked all sorts of ass. They were more metal than most metal bands were at that time.

And yes, I digs me some Journey. There are no singers like Steve Perry anymore and there's no songwriters like Lennon/McCartney anymore. The Beatles early albums were more like boy-bands, I personally LOVE their stuff after they discovered drugs!

Take a look at country radio. It STILL plays 80s AND 90s country hits every few spins in between the Rascal Flatts. Garth Brooks, The Judds, Highway 101, Aaron Tippin...hell, even that annoying brat Billy Gilman still gets love. And 90% of country artists don't even write their own songs!

The thing about Nickelback and Hinder, they're like the 80s hair metal "B" bands like Enuff 'Z 'Nuff and Trixter, only more popular. In most cases the record overlords put studio musicians together or whoever else they can find and market it as the next big thing in rock (i.e. Bush). It's what I call the "Lou Pearlman Effect." Hire the prettiest, metrosexiest guys who can play three chords, hire some songwriters...VIOLA! You have Nickelback!

In my humble opinion, the new AC/DC, Metallica, and especially the new GnR kick balls! "Chinese Democracy" is well worth the 46 year wait!

Is anyone else pissed off about this seemingly new round of tween bands (i.e. The Jonas Brother, That Chick From Drake and Josh on Nickelodeon, Miley, The Naked Brothers Band, etc?) By 7 year old loves it. Is there an adult market for any of this crap or are we being forcefed this shit to appease our children?

Again, I am 1,000% with you on that. I have only heard the single off of Chinese Democracy and it is seriously good.
