Re: Hatin On The Northern Panhandle
I think Pennsylvania should just battle West Virginia for that portion of the Panhandle. Then they could fight the battle of Old Rusty Mill and Million Dollar Casino.

Re: Hatin On The Northern Panhandle
I daresay Pennsylvania would more likely fight to stay rid of it.
I prepose that the Panhandle seceed from Charleston. They hate the Panhandle anyway. Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, maybe Wetzel, and Monongalia just to keep the Legislature from further turning WVU into a community college/Walmart product brand. What do you think? Vandalia? Alleghenia? Paisleyana?

Thats the kind of posts I figured would pop up...I believe the term is called being a "hater"...Im originally from the area but continue to wonder why y'all from the sowf call them douche-bag half yankees. Remember who continually fuels the fire for WV being a state of dumb rednecks...
"Fattest" City Label Doesn't Bother Huntington Much
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – As a portly woman plodded ahead of him on the sidewalk, the obese mayor of America's fattest and unhealthiest city explained why health is not a big local issue.
Huntington leads in a half-dozen other illness measures, too, including heart disease and diabetes. It's even tops in the percentage of elderly people who have lost all their teeth (half of them have).

This entire thread was a test to see if you could take some good natured ribbing.
You can not.
You failed.

Re: Hatin On The Northern Panhandle
Years ago there was a statewide bond initiative that was defeated by the good mountaineers south of New Martinsville. The bond package would have improved roads in the state. It was passed overwhelmingly in the northern panhandle. But soundly defeated downstate, as the rest of the state is referred to in the NP. NP residents were very ticked off as they always felt that historically the steel industry in the NP paid the bills for the rest of the state and very little was returned to the NP in the form of roads and infrastructure. whether or not this was true is a subject of debate, however I feel this perception is an accurate reflection of the feelings of most NP residents, especially when the see the road infrastructure in Charleston.
The day after the election the station where I worked did a poll of morning listeners asking the first 100 callers whether or not the NP should seceed from W.Va.
The results:
98 said yes.
1 said no.
And one said the NP should seceed from the US in order to receive foreign aid.
So yes there is a lot of animosity by NP residents toward "downstate".

Well, I now write for the Tyler Star News based out of Sistersville and I can tell you the roads up here are miserable and I'm waiting for a rock to roll down the hill and crush a car on Route 2.

I dont ever recall wv being a "steel" state... I'd call wv a drive thru restaurant state before i'd call it a steel state.... 3 or 4 mills supporting the whole state
