"Most radio stations have a website, but the folks behind i64country.com like to call their company 'a website with a radio station.' The site streams classic country music to listeners all over the world while simulcasting on terrestrial AM radio stations WOKT in Cannonsburg, KY and WOKU in Hurricane WV. "We realize this is an out-of-the-box approach," notes Bryan K Fowler, market manager for owner Big River Radio. i64country.com is named for the interstate highway overlooked by the broadcast towers of both terrestrial stations. Quips WOKU station manager Denzil Vickers, ' I like to say it's where the interstate and internet collide.' "

I hadn't listened to them for a while, but turned them on yesterday afternoon, and their automation system was going insane. Songs cut off in the middle, promos double playing, British newscasters faded out in the middle of a cast... good concept, but it ran better when they started.

Sometime ot long ago, I listened to one of these stations and it sat silent for several hours.
Amusing. I wonder who is supposed to monitor the station or if they have a silence sensor
to call a responsible party if something should go wrong? What happens to the logs during such a period?
Is there a hot line to call the station? Auto-pilot 100% of the time, I guess.

Logs smogs. No one keeps logs anymore. Logs are old school.

I'd think that i-64country.com (and the wisely also-registered i64country.com without the dash) would have some savings on the internet side from being the simulcast of a terrestrial station (or actually two terrestrial stations) and thus not having to pay the higher Copyright Royalty Board rates associated with stand-alone webcasters.

I was in Hurricane a few weeks ago helping my daughter move into her new apartment which is a few blocks away from WOKU. I had a chance to listen to i64 country and was impressed. As always I give 2 enthusiastic thumbs up to companies that put a well thought out product, especially on AM daytimers! Next time I am visiting my daughter I'll stop in to the station!

Classic Country Radio (www.myclassiccountry.com) does a nice job with their 3 daytimers in the Southwest Ohio area. (WBZI 1500/Xenia, WKFI 1090/Wilmington, WEDI 1130/Eaton) They simulcast the programming but some spots and ID's are split off between the 3 stations, most likely to offer a lower rate for someone that doesn't want to buy on all 3. However, I think their webcast shuts off at the end of the broadcast day.

I work in the Northern Panhandle( Ooops I better watch myself) and firmly believe that WWVA should flip to Classic Country, bring back the WWVA air staff if available ( Bud Forte, Bill Berg, Tom Miller ect) move the paid religion to 2-5am in the morningand and bring back the heritage! It would sure be nice that as the Saturday Night Wheeling Jamboree continues to re establish itself the 2 could work together. Now you might ask what to do with the talk line up currently in place on 1170? Move it to 1400 or 95.7 FM!

I couldn't agree more about making WWVA a classic country flamethrower, AND bringing back the personalities that made it such a legendary station for so long. One without the other can be found online. Which brings me back to an ongoing issue with me...since we force people out of this state, the least we can do is allow them to access their favorite radio station wherever they are in the world. There has got to be a workable way for terrestrial stations to stream without being avalanched under unworkable, onerous and prohibitive requirements. That would be huge for most stations, especially our little labor of love (WRSG).
