Clear Channel Axe To Fall

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

I bet some of the engineering departments at CC will also be cut. The downsizing trend will follow at other groups. Sad, very sad!

14 out of the CC cluster in Raleigh. 2 were on-air, the rest in sales.

More cuts will definately come... none of today's "realignment" implemented any of the 15 new "nationwide" formats. As those slowly invade markets, look for heads to roll as well. Just not nationwide, all in one day.

Amazing how easy it is to purchase a stooge by letting them keep their job 'til another day.

C-C must be going to rely a lot on national sales.
Or just service big clients in the smaller markets.

Word must be slow to trickle out in Huntington/Ashland.

This is one of those times that I'm ECSTATIC to be doing radio in cow-country. My thoughts to our brethren in the Empire.
America is at that awkward stage.

I think that would be a strategic error for sales.

In our case, we're holding our own by focusing on small clients with limited budgets. It won't make us rich, but it will pay the bills, and it's moved us back toward what has historically worked for us. It's so easy to rely on national buys (that have now been drastically reduced for small and unranked markets) that we can lose focus on what's been successful in the past. I think that a redoubling of efforts locally will help many survive, and I think it's a sound strategy for any cluster/single property. Even CC.

Of course, I could be totally talking out my yazoo. 8)

Cow, sheep, chickens, pigs...hell, even an Ox or two during the Fair.

As of a couple years ago, there were 68 employees in the Huntington cluster. I don't know the breakdown. Maybe 10 PTers or so to cover WKEE, remotes in Catlettsburg, and sports.

But, as you yourself said, smaller markets will take a greater percentage of the hit...and I am inclined to agree...

I have often been asked why I chose to stay in REALLY small town radio. Other than the obvious lack of talent on my part, news like this is exactly the reason why.

CC Math:

2 x FOJ = OTD

(Where OTD = "Out the Door").

Just two? And they are FOJ?
Local cluster may have escaped major bloodletting.
Lucky for everyone but the unfortunate two.

I am curious if the borg gave any severance packages, or were these people just kicked to the curb? Anybody?
