[Know It All]

Greetings Fans. Once again, The Know It All comes from the shadows and delivers the goods. This time on the mass evacuation at the CC Huntington Cluster, and boy is it ever a cluster.

The evacuated positions are: One programmer, Rob Kimball from WAMX and five sales junkies. Of those five, two were but newbies. They barely put their toe in the water before being shown the door. Of the remaining three, two were veterans planning to retire this year anyway.

The group recieved a severence package of nine months salary. Aunt Judy did two of them a favor by letting them set on their arse and get paid for nine months and then retire.
As for Rob and newbies, looks like they sleep late and draw a paycheck thru October.

CC corporate announced internally that after July the severence packages will no longer be offered to those that are released from the company. Thus, The Know It All predicts the ring girls will be holding the Round Two signs on Fourth Avenue in early August. Who could it be? Well, Gary Miller may be in the crosshairs. He has already used up all his annual sick time for 2009, in January, by the 20th! This is in keeping with his long history of working hard in getting out of work. He might just be next for his lack of actually wanting to do the job.

Wonder if the satellite could work cheaper?

If the satellite is as reliable as the feed to WVHU is at night, what few advertisers are left who still choose CC for their radio advertising needs in times other than ball games will find other, perhaps more kindred places to advertise.

Newbies getting nine months severance ??????

2 weeks per year of employment with a 4 week minimum payout is the norm across most industries. I have booked enough severance entries to know how this works.

I have never heard of Clear Channel being this generous.

The severance agreement was filed with the FCC as part of the PE merger/buyout. I think it went something like this. Sorry, but I don't have a link.

Newbies with less than 6 months got 2 weeks
6 months - 1 year got 1 month
1 - 3 years got 3 months
3+ years got 9 months

Regardless of the specifics, it was a tiered system that is much more generous than industry standards, so the people affected, although unemployed were not sent packing without consideration.

Their generosity might be a public perception thing. They're probably thinking that they'll come off looking like good guys by being generous to their former minions. KIA says that they won't be so generous the next time around -- after the furor has gone away.

90 days in generous. 9 Months is amazing. I have never heard of blue collar workers getting more than 90 days. That awesome.

I fear this is not the end, though. I hope all those affected will get cut by the end of the severance period.

It appears that only 3 sales people were given the axe in Wheeling so far. From what I have gathered, the departed include Jonathan Dickerson, Rich Biela, and Sally Hare (who hasn't been actually axed yet due to her being out sick or possibly job hunting. ).

But there may be more and probably will be.

Don't know about any severance package but CC was definitly not that generous to the departed who were fired in 01 & 02 in the Black Monday mass firings. Of course, Clear Channel and generous have never been used synonomously ever before in their recorded history.
