If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Senator Stabenow To Investigate “Imbalance” Of Talk Radio

Post by Force Commander »

The kill talk radio bill peeks it head above the sand again. Of course this has nothing to do with her husband being involved in liberal talk radio. When you can't win with ratings, just make a law to force it down the throats of listeners.

The Pelosi types know if the liberal hosts would get big numbers in the markets they were in, the big (and small) companies would go crazy to get liberal talk on their stations, probably 24/7. If WCMI for an example had done better in the ratings, I guarantee you someone would notice the sucess and you would see the successful hosts planted on radio stations in other markets. If they did well in a few markets, various corporate types would then order the chain to find room and get them on. Ratings equals money, simple as that in rated markets. Instead we reward failure through government mandate.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) told Dial-Global syndicated talker Bill Press during an interview on this morning’s (2/5) show that she and Senate colleagues plan to hold investigative hearings into what she termed the “structural imbalance” of political Talk radio. “Whether it’s called the Fairness Standard or something else, I absolutely think it’s time to bring accountability to the airwaves,” said the Michigan Democrat. When asked by Press, “Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the U.S. Senate this year, to bring in these owners and hold them accountable?”, Stabenow replied, “I have already had some discussion with colleagues and I, you know, feel like that’s going to happen.” Stabenow is married to Tom Athans, co-founder and former CEO of Democracy Radio, an organization that produced and supported early efforts to develop left-leaning national Talk radio shows including programs hosted by Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller. Athans is also a former Air America Radio exec and the founder of liberal Talk radio network TalkUSA Radio.

Anybody with an NPR affiliate in their market knows there's no "imbalance"...

Never mind TV and the internets.

Conservative talk works pretty much nation wide ... Liberal talk works in very few markets. If liberal talked worked everywhere Air America would have been profitable instead if flopped as Beck, Hannity, Rush, and Savage to name a few have flourished.
