WSAZ technical problems

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Maybe Don Ray is off managing some of the Young Broadcasting properties
and he left a minion in charge. A real take-charge and not pay attention type.

WSAZ live from Ritter park at 5 tonight.
Lots of camera problems, synchronization.
WSAZ used to laugh at WOWK for things like that.
Without competition, WSAZ sinks to just better than WCHS.

WSAZ still gets 4 times the ratings of WCHS. The 2 don't even compare. WCHS isn't gaining on anybody.

But WSAZ quality sinks everyday.

Agreed, but most (not all) broadcast media quality sinks every day. Radio, television, heck -- even newspapers -- if you wanna throw them in the mix. We've downsized, laid off, fired and computerized as much as humanly possible in most of these operations. There aren't enough human beings to carry out what used to be normal operating mode 20 years ago. The operational question seems to be how much will our audience tolerate before they leave us for good? Once broadcasters find and note that mark, they set their programming quality level one notch above the implosion mark and continue on.

So - here I am trying to watch the Marshall game and I get 20 minutes of a freeze frame for some law firm along with the game audio in the 2nd half.

Is this a part of the cutbacks in TV? Sound only?

They got it fixed - again- about 20 minutes later. I kept checking just to see how long it would last while going to 93.7 for the game.

Awful.

20 or so minutes of frozen picture during the Marshall Game. 8:30 to 8:50 maybe.
stuck on a slide of some lawyer in Pittsburgh. Did have game audio tho.
Finally a crawl telling the audience that the problem is under repair.
Lets hope WSAZ does not have the Super Bowl.
Lose any spots?

The problem was isolated to one piece of equipment.

"The decoder that locked up during the half time portion of the game could have locked up in the news, prime time programming or any time; it was unfortunate that it occurred during the Marshall broadcast. We're having the manufacturer check it," said Withrow.

WSAZ General Manager Don Ray said this equipment failure had absolutely nothing to do with the WSAZ production of the Marshall game.

Earlier Monday, Weber says Special Metals laid off 30 hourly workers -- 27 in the Huntington plant and 3 at the burnoff plant where the explosion happened.

Bill Murray's microphone not working on 6 pm news newsroom throw.
Not plugged in? Not turned on?
No hum like with a not plugged in mike.
Are mike checks obsolete?

So if they're are so bad, so inept...WHY DO YOU STILL WATCH? You seem to catch every mistake, at every corner so you much watch WSAZ all the time. Just wondering.

We have people call up and say "I'll never watch your station again!"...and then they call back next week and complain about something else. Life is too short to always be angry. :)

I watch all three locals at 6 pm (in sequence).
I just seem to catch problems on wsaz.
You have to admit there are more production mistakes on wsaz
than on the others combined.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Imagine working 12 months over 14 years wracking up more than 10,000 hours--and you don't get paid a dime for any of it.

Wracking?
