Genlock...you seem to notice a lot of technical errors on WSAZ. Just out of curiosity, are you an engineer or on air?

None of the above.
WSAZ just sometimes makes mistakes.
Usually in clusters.
These mistakes were not show killers but audio flubs.
A show killer is when Tim reads a long build-up for the first story and it is not there or the wrong segment plays out.
To WSAZ's credit, this has not happened in a while.
I don't comment on every mistake as I do not watch WSAZ as primary source.
I choose WCHS.

Not a technical problem but the market leader aired a morning weathercast
by Marina Jurica at 5:55 in the evening. Poor attention to detail.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
OTA links were out for WSAZ and WOWK for most of the storm. However, my friend tells me the cable feed stayed on for SAZ.
I saw the warnings on CH30. The Portsmouth station did not go off during the storm.
Go figure....Hummmmm

They use Comcast cable to back-haul to the Comcast head-end. It is a direct feed.lastone wrote:However, my friend tells me the cable feed stayed on for SAZ.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
The "Hummmmm..." Was for Portsmouth's CH30.
As I understand it, it's on 13's tower. Can't get a signal from town to the tower but you can from Portsmouth?

Re: WSAZ technical problems
Today on the evening news, Jessica Ralston was reporting from Haddad Riverfront park.
Uncontrolled natural lighting made her look 15 years younger than the WSAZ studio lighting.
Amanda Barren also looks much better out of the studio.
I have noticed over the last 40 years or so that lighting problems are solve by adding more lights.
An improper lighting setup is never corrected, It is enhanced with even more lights.
I still remember Christy Perry's embarrassing mustache caused by bad lighting from years ago.
Market Leader, indeed.

It seems most stations are completely redoing the lights when they convert to HD, so it's only a matter of time... right?genlock wrote:An improper lighting setup is never corrected, It is enhanced with even more lights.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
wowk went to fluorescent lighting several years ago to save on heat. they just didn't have the color temp to look good, but they were happy with the saving of heat and electric.

I always liked the flouro lamps.
The cameras can be adjusted to add the missing color temps.
Bad lighting trumps expensive lights.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
WOW Wednesday at WSAZ. in the 7:30pm show . they cut away from the first segment to a commerical and came back with the last segment. missing about the 10 minuet second segment. did their final commerical and sat in black for several minuets. I didn't watch for the whole 10 men. black is boring. somebody must have been asleep. isn't automation great. first seg of jeopardy ok but second segment double jeopardy missing.

Coal Bowl remote broadcast.
Muffled, echo sound.
Low sound level.
Studio sound blasts in comparison.
Charleston Power Park audio ok.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
They did it again. This time they played the same segment twice, back to back. this was Wednesday in Wheel. Then Thursday they spent 10 minuets telling us about a storn and tornado well out of our area and perhaps out of their viewing area. they repeated everything at least four times. They did get their spots in at the start and end. I just wanted to see Jeopardy. If they are in the area of the storm they are not watching TV anyway. Why do TV stations think we want to see all this information about the weather ? I feel the same way about breaking in to a show to tell us that the power is out. If it is out they already know it is out and can't see it anyway, so why tell me it is out? Save it for the news. Market Leader, Indeed?
