Saw the Google car
Saw the Google video car in Charleston today. It had California plates and a local driver. My guess is that it's been about two and a half years since the car came through here last. I cant imagine driving every road in America (not to mention around the world) every two years or so.

Re: Saw the Google car
Are they taking pictures in small towns and on rural roads now?
I've found my car two different times in Google Earth satellite photos.
As a side curiosity, anybody know how many miles high those sats are? No way those detailed shots are from geostationary orbit...

Re: Saw the Google car
Doing a quick wikipedia search for commercial photography satellites shows most of them seem to be operating at either 450 or 650 km.

Re: Saw the Google car
I spend way too much time on Capitol Street in downtown Charleston. There's two shots of me on Google Street View. As I followed the Google car for a few blocks the other day, I should be in the updated version also.
There are many rural roads in the Google system now.... places I'd never have guessed they would go. Most often however, they stick to the main road out in the rural areas.
