Sheriff here has new toy.

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Sheriff here has new toy.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- It's 425 horsepower of Hemi-powered muscle wrapped up in a low-visibility package. Kanawha County sheriff's deputies call it the "Ghost Car," and it could be sneaking up on you right now.

"With an unmarked car, you can get a lot closer to people than in a marked car," said Cpl. F.E. Flowers, who took the Ghost Car on its maiden voyage Tuesday. "A lot of times, people will blow right past you without even seeing you."

The Ghost Car is a Dodge Charger police cruiser, but with some hidden attributes. For one, it's not really unmarked, but instead has special low-visibility markings that are difficult to see in the daylight, but light up just like a normal cruiser when the car is hit with headlights at night.

Rutherford said the Ghost Car is a mostly standard Charger bought off the state vehicle contract for about $22,000. County officials spent another $22,000 in grant money on the license plate recognition system. The sheriff's department has ordered another license plate system as well, he said.

"We believe it will pay for itself rather quickly with the benefit to the community," Rutherford said.

I'm sorry, but if you can not recognize an "unmarked" squad car, which is almost always a Charger or a Crown Vic, then you deserve a ticket. They may not be well "marked" but anyone should be able to distinguish... most of the damn time they are black or white in color. I just behave every time I see a black or white Charger or Crown Vic. in my mirror or ahead.

Further, the big ass black spotlight hanging off the windshield and the radar guns attached to the trunk will certainly help it go unnoticed by the I64 criminals... How dare they do 61 in a 60.

$22,000 for that bad boy? That's one heck of a state contract. Surely they had to pay more for that kind of muscle.

Forgive me-I don't get out much.

This cost $72,000. And it seats no one...
