Hoosier Daddy: That's why I choose nursing (that and it was my dad's idea)...there's so many opportunites. I started at the LPN level but am gonna work on my RN starting as soon as possible..then BSN and so on...I want to be a Nurse Practitioner but they are changing the law that you have to have your doctorate for that in 2015..not sure I'll be able to have my MSN by then...

Agreed... Even though I started back to grad school in 2008 and now have an M.A. and a C.R.M it is still tough to get a permanant gig..Hoosier Daddy wrote:If you were to ask me to name one career that offers the best salary and opportunity return on tuition investment, the answer is NURSING.herdgirl72 wrote:Its not just teaching radio folk are leaving for..some of are going into nursing..
Our population is aging. Health care is the most rapidly growing career field out there. With an associates degree in nursing, an entry-level registered nurse can make between $40K and $60K a year, depending on the employer and location. You can work three 12 hour shifts and call it a week, or just work weekends, or just overnights, or just during the day. You can be a travelling nurse, moving from city to city, trying on different opportunities until you find something (and somewhere) you like. You can work in a hospital, a clinic, a physician's office, a hospice center, an urgent care center, a school or college campus, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, the health department, a jail or prison, a cruise ship, or in home health care.
Get a four year degree and you can go into management. Go two more years and you can be a nurse anesthetist, a nurse practitioner, a nurse midwife, or a clinical nursing instructor. A doctorate degree is available if you want to conduct research, be a clinical nurse specialist, or work in the upper levels of nursing education. Nursing has its own federal and state political lobbies and they are very effective at gaining and securing good things for nurses everywhere.
The money, and the opportunities, are certainly there with nursing.
Smart career choice, Herdgirl.
I'm gonna give it another year or so and if it doesn't pan out I'm going into the medical field myself...
Who killed the radio star??

Geez, and when I wouldn't leave radio, my ex-wife went into the White Trash business.
