Landau's parade

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Landau's parade

Post by genlock »

WSAZ picked a spot right in front of the funeral home.
From that vantage point Logan looks very depressing.
LHS band was sorta small.

Most high school bands are small these days! In my neck of the woods, block scheduling means marching band is an after-school activity only.
Aircheck? You'd make a great board op.

I wondered why the Huntington High School band was so small. I played with them at halftime of their 2nd game of the year (Spring Valley) when they invited back alumni from the old Huntington High and Huntington East bands as well as the new HHS band. I was surprised how few members were in the current band. I was class of 1974 at the old HHS and was the oldest alum there.

To stay on topic somewhat, I hear that Marshall athletic folks are trying to arrange for Landau to sing the National Anthem at a Herd football game this year, but commitments from winning 'America's Got Talent' may prevent that. There's always basketball season....

Looks like WVU beat them to the punch. Here's Landau practicing at WVU's stadium for the National Anthem for Saturday night's LSU-WVU game which will be on ESPN.

EZ103.3 I was not aware of the alumni band or I would have been there. I played in the last one and that was several years ago. Bob Tweel was band director then. If I had played you would have lost out as oldest as I graduated in 1956. What do you play? I play trombone.

I play trumpet. I was in the HHS band under Tom Castle. Started in 5th grade at Cammack Elementary when Jim Rathburn was HHS director (and at Cammack & West Jr. High). Then had Bill Weed in 6th-9th grades.

There was a guy who was from East in the trumpet section from the HEHS class of '75. He still plays regularly in Dale Jones' bands and other places. I hadn't touched a trumpet in at least 25 years.

They didn't much publicity about it out this time. I just saw it in the Herald-Dispatch the Sunday before the game. They'll do it again next year.

EZ103.3 well I'll see him and Dale Jones tonight Thursday at Vinson middle school. we all play in the Huntington Symphonic Band. A lot of us old timers there. Jimmy R. was band directior at Lincoln Jr High when I started. then Shadwell died and Jimmy went to Huntington High and Paul Dempsy came to LJH. and Leland Arnold was at East High. If you have time you should come down to Vinson. we start at 7:00pm and play till about 8:30. lot of fun

Had the office door open yesterday morning when all of a sudden we heard The National Anthem. At first I thought WTAE was signing off, but I didn't see any aircraft flying overhead*. Secretary went out for lunch and came back in and told us who it was that we heard singing...
