But 356 is lighter than 357

But 356 is lighter than 357

Post by genlock »

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University has adopted kelly green as its official school color.

The Board of Governors voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt PANTONE Matching System (PMS) 356, referred by Thundering Herd fans as kelly green.

It's effective Jan. 1.

Marshall sports teams have historically used kelly green, even when the university switched to a lighter hue, PMS 357. But after test marketing, the darker shade won out with fans and alumni.

Marshall officials say there's little cost associated with the change.

Letterhead, business cards and other items will just be replaced as they need to be replenished.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
In a story about Marshall University switching its official school color, The Associated Press erroneously reported the university had chosen a darker shade of green. The Board of Governors on Tuesday chose PANTONE Matching System 356, or kelly green, which is lighter than the PMS 357 shade adopted in 2001.

I would like to take credit for the actions of the Associated Press in to correct the
incorrect facts in the story. Just for the record, I preferred the 357 green (Darker shade).

From what I heard (secondhand), during the discussion of the color change it was revealed that the board had never made a final official vote to change to the darker 357 several years ago. So even thought the darker color has been in use for that period of time, technically no vote was necessary to go back to the lighter 356 kelly green. They voted anyway.
