WOWK HD Launch

Post by --- »

Step 1 is complete: Syndicated programs hit the air in HD today, along with HD commercials. Now just waiting for the news.

But there were lots of long black periods without sound.
They did manage to insert grafx over one of them tho.

Didn't catch those. Tuned in at 7 and saw some promos and Inside Edition HD at 7:30.

What's with the momentary flashing to black in the newscast?
Doesn't seem to be in the commercials just in the live and news tape stuff.
News in 4:3 , commercials in newscast also 4:3.
Do they pre-record the news?
BTW: audio was blipping too.

Noticed that. Everything was fixed by Monday's broadcasts though.

wowk has a big problem with the closed captioning. since they made the switch it is all messed up. un readable. since their audio is bad in the first place now this makes it hard to watch.

Bray's "Decision Makers" began HD broadcasting Sunday. Set looks great, hopefully news will be soon.

Apparently WOWK subtly transitioned to HD at 6pm Saturday. No announcement in advance.

Just caught the end of Sunday's 6pm cast. Weather and close.

Pictures looked great as well as grafx. Audio was low and hollow.

Something to work on overnight.

April apologized tonight for the loss of some season finale programs the other day.
I guess xmtr was off or fiber crapped out or something. Statewide is in HD tonight.
Apparently Kelly Brennan is gone, not on bio list anymore.

I think the broadcast looks great. Best I've ever seen WV Media. And Kelly is gone. I emailed her about a week ago and she said she was gonna be leaving. Now time for them to return the 5 to Scott or find a new anchor. I like April with Don, but not solo. Plus they should have more anchors than just 2 for the 4 evening newscasts.

I was watching a CSI on wowk sunday and when it went off at 2:00pm and everything went to pot. there was a long streach of color bars and tone from somewhere then they sat blackfor a while then going back to the color bars looked like from Texas, and then some spots started and then repeated several times then a Dutch Miller program started about 15 after then it ran for seveal minuets then the same spots started again. by the way the first spot was for a ford company then the Miller show restarted and ran several minuets more then at 3PM net came up. I sat back and laughed and had the best time. I guess to many people were sent home. I guess that no one else was watching at this time.

I have noticed they are trying to use Charleston on everything. However, a quick look at the FCC records still indicates they are licensed to the community of Huntington, not Charleston. Unless the laws have changed recently, any legal Id or published material must say Huntington and say it first. Or has this been changed?

The legal ID must state the call letters and city of license. However, the legal ID only has to run once per hour, in the bottom 1/3 of the screen. Most stations do this with tiny fonts and are only visible for about 5 seconds.

The rest of the branding can say whatever they want.

the legal IDs are to to run withen 5 min at the top of the hour. I believe this was originaly so that am stations causing interference by running to much power could be identified. wowk has always wanted 13 to be a Charleston station saying that is where the money is. they will still have to have a studio in the Huntington area as this is required by the gutless FCC.wowk has been using bad IDs for some years. they are running such low power I don't believe their signal even reaches Charleston

Watched the news closely this 6 pm.
Ignored content and was fascinated by the news set.
There are several places on the set where the metal trim strips don't even meet.
Seams are visible in others. I first thought this might have been a lighting anomaly,
but it seems that the set was constructed with the seams in the picture center.
I realize there are restrictions on building the set because of transportation needs
and because of the availability of materials in certain sizes. Those will cause seams
somewhere on the set. These show up in the middle of the set tho and that makes the
entire thing look like it was built in someones garage.
Look for the seams and see what you think.

Perhaps they are waiting for Dish to fork over the extra $$$ to finish the set.

I am waiting for a deluge of Bondo spots in a trade-out deal.
All those Ponderosa spots have to be a trade of some sort.

OMG, I saw this in glorious analog and it is very obvious, especially in the metallic trim. Looks like something straight from WDTV in the 70s!
Aircheck? You'd make a great board op.
