AIRCHECKS

Post by PaulRadioWalker »

Hello All! :)

I am a radio dork an on air guy up in Northern Pennsylvania. In my 9 years in the business, I've worked almost entirely in small towns. I've really come to appreciate it and find my niche doing live, local, community driven radio.

That being said, I LOVE hearing other stations that do the same. I love hearing their programming, regardless of what it is and I love hearing their "local elements".. lost dog reports, school lunch menus and the like. I even go after some small town radio station recordings even if the station doesn't have alot of "content".. small town radio, regardless of format or content can be very unique and interesting.

I have a list of airchecks I'm looking for on my website but a few on the list, while not marked as such fall under my "Most Wanted" catergory for one reason or another.

Currently on my most wanted list is WWYO 970 Pineville, WV. i read somewhere that it "Runs a strange mix of gospel and a lot of freebie syndicated shows". I still want to hear it.

Can anyone out there help? I will supply a cassette tape or two and a self addressed stamped envelope.

Email me "off list", Walkerbroadcasting@gmail.com if you can help. Please, feel free to pass my email address along to anyone you think might be able to help with my request.

Thanks in advance ;)

I'd like to second Paul's call for airchecks of WWYO and other smaller WV stations. A friend of mine once looked at buying WWYO, and I have a copy of some jingles they used in the 1970s.

Has either WRRL 1130 Rainelle or WHJC 1360 Matewan returned to the air? What is WELC 1150 Welch doing? Is anybody in position to record the local news hour (9-10 a.m.) on WRON 1400 Ronceverte?

Thanks,

C.

Clark, I actually sent a letter to the address listed for WWYO's owner in Bluefield, offering to supply cassettes and an SASE if he'd aircheck the station for me. No email or letter back from Mr Jennings, yet. Somehow, i don' think I'll be getting one lol :D

You may want to try Ronceverte on that local news block. Also, WHAW 980 Weston has (or at least it had) a great tradio/swap shop show on Saturday mornings. I'm sure there must be others ...

If anyone cares.. I wrote a letter to Rudy Jennings at WWYO 970 asking if he would aircheck/record his station for me. After about 3 weeks, I got a letter back from him.

he agreed to record his station for me and tapes along with a self addressed stamped envelope have already been mailed off to him in Bluefield.

(Not that anyone actually DOES care or understand the interest in a station like WWYO..)

The station actually cooked as a top 40 in the 80's. "Y-O-97!"

Lookie what came in the mail on Thursday to me here in Ridgway, PA

(see below the picture for more information!)

I had asked the station if they'd aircheck themselves for me if I supplied cassettes and a self addressed stamped envelope. Got these back after about 2 months.

WWYO also has a website, you can find it at http://www.am970wwyo.com
