Hit and run.

Hit and run.

Post by Lester »

The drive from the VA border to Huntington...

Air talent between VA and Charleston is HORRIBLE. Between the pukers and the girl that sounded like she should be reading announcements on the Junior High intercom, I thought I was going to lose my mind. Lucky for them no carriers have an Internet backbone strong enough to support streaming from the car.

Didn't do any extended listening in Charleston.

Huntington - Listening (currently) to JB Miller on "The Buck". Considering I wasn't a big country fan during a big chunk of their playlists popularity, I really like it. More surprisingly was that my 17 year old son was the one that reminded me 101.5 was here... "Hey dad, here's that station I was talking about. Why don't we have one in Raleigh?" And JB is still a rock-solid air talent.

WKEE- Sounds satellite... besides the obvious Seacrest show. Dave and Nick appear to be local, but they don't sound overly attached to the market (granted, I don't have the option of listening daily). And why is "Dave and Tia" on the webpage, but "Dave and Nick" are on the air. Details matter. Overall, they aren't bad though. Best morning show I've heard (on KEE) in years... but work on those show promos. (Kinda lame.)

More to come... maybe.

Listened to Charleston on the way through. No one stuck out, but no one sucked either.

J104 is currently on my "list" as I spend my 55th minute PARKED on I77, and they've said nothing. The show is even billed as "The Drive at Five"... With absolutely zero information about driving. Puke on, Blake. Puke on.

Radio in Huntington is, well, horrid these days. To the point that I rarely venture off of Sirius radio.

Listening to local stations is only SLIGHTLY more local than Sirius. It's that bad.

To be fair, Mike has hated Huntington radio for a while. How have you been, Mike?

Shitty.

Might get fired Monday.

My company's stock is worth less than a dime.

The Huntington market is certainly not what we had hoped would evolve back in the day. But it makes me happy to see a true local radio-loving guy like Mike Kirtner leading the charge, showing off Kindred's new digs at 6th Street and (FINALLY!) Fifth Avenue Broadcasting!!!

Like I commented on Mike's Facebook photo of their new sign...now, that's what I call GREATER media!

For now.

If I get let go I'll start removing viruses from people's computers for cash. It's in demand and I'd probably make more money than I do now. Anyone need a 40 year old IT professional with 20 years experience?
