Area man facing 50 years for bestiality movies

A Marietta man is facing more than 50 years in prison after he was indicted Tuesday on charges of running a prostitution ring and selling bestiality films over the Internet. The charges come after an 18-month investigation into the business activities of William T. Reed, 46, of 600 Bramblewood Heights Road. Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said during the summer of 2005 a woman arrested on drug charges offered to provide information about Reed in an effort to avoid going to jail.

During a search of Reedâ€™s home, about 700 videotapes were collected, many of which contain hard-core pornographic footage, including sexual acts between women and animals. Mincks said officers determined Reed was purchasing many of the videos from overseas, making copies and selling them over the Internet for about $20 each. Some of the tapes may have been made locally.

According to court records, Reed has admitted to officers that the tapes brought in nearly $50,000 over a two-year span. Six women who stepped forward to assist in the prostitution investigation will likely not face charges, Mincks said.
