Grab a Life Jacket, Theres Rough Water On The River
Better be sure to pay your taxes, the unemployment payouts are certainly going to increase. Nate Gilcher and A.C. Carter of 101.5 The River morning show fame were terminated earlier today by Connoisseur Media. On the "flip" side, be looking look for a 101.5 format flip in the not so distant future.

Damn.. that whole operation seems to be a mess. I am glad I didn't jump on the BJ/Connoisseur bandwagon like a few others did. I was this close to going to work for them.Know It All wrote:Nate Gilcher and A.C. Carter of 101.5 The River morning show fame were terminated earlier today by Connoisseur Media.
I have never heard Nate Gilcher but I have heard AC Carter. I hope these guys find something soon.

Nate and I were informed that we no longer had jobs right after we finished the morning show today. We were told that the River is making some changes and that eliminating the morning show in its current form is one of those changes. Apparently a consultant who put BOB FM in place for Connoisseur in Illinois visited the Palacial Penthouse Studios on Fifth Avenue today. You do the math.

101.5 going Hot AC with that killer signal. A much better choice than Classic Rock.
97.9 flipping too and going after KEE's CHR base.
That's what I was told. But who knows. Wait and see.

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Classic Rock was always going to be a tough sell in the Huntington-Ashland-Ironton metro area. My opinion: It's much better suited to the River's broader base of listeners in the rural areas. That's where the station's strength always was anyway. I know county numbers don't necessarily pay the big money, but our county numbers were always through the roof. However, the sales focus shifted almost totally away from the River's outlying counties after the sale to Connoisseur in 2006.
I wish nothing but the best for the River and Magic. There are some really good people there. I think Newman Adkins can get the job done if he's given the time. There are some dynamic sales people there, too. Sonya Hall is a real go-getter and butt-kicker. Top-notch sales-babe.

Sounds like sharks swimming after blood. Or after that 8.6 (and hemorrhaging) number?Hoosier Daddy wrote:101.5 going Hot AC with that killer signal. A much better choice than Classic Rock.

I thought that a split was the whole goal of KEE and KISS... the two numbers were supposed to be the same as KEE was when they were pulling in the high teens.
Genius. Really, I mean that. Genius. The pair barely makes 10 now.

Sorry to hear the news guys. Nate, you're a class act. AC, well, you suck, but you knew that. However, you did call it on the "brother in law" thing.
I hear Connoisuer (hell, I don't know how to spell it) is buying the Planet? Any truth to that anybody? And would that mean they're buying all the Kindred stuff?

Interesting thought-process. "River blows up. Planet for sale."

At least they named it after me.

Re: Grab a Life Jacket, Theres Rough Water On The River
FM Radio is dead. When you go from local live content to BOB format, it sends a huge message. That message is not many people listening to the radio, and the ones that are not being reached by advertisers.
Going pop/country is the only way to get the younger listener and the person the advertiser wants to reach.
Sad industry the radio business has become.

A note to all program directors and consultants everywhere...
When you change format, be sure to load 64kbps mp3 music files into the system.
No one can tell the difference - and they sound GREEEATTT on the air.
WXBW-FM - Got that X in there for book-confusion.

Mr. Kirtner was seen dining at the same restaurant just three days after Mr. Newman was spotted at that same restaurant. This PROVES that Connoisseur is buying The Planet.Cameron wrote:Where do ya' get this crap? I guess 20 years with independent ownership just can't be comprehended in this business.

Was that the 5th avenue McDonalds or the Washington Avenue McDonalds?

Does it pay anymore to truly give a d*** about your job? Oops...I said "pay" regarding RADIO! Good luck, Nate and AC.
Slightly better times ahead. Blessings in disguise. Every cloud...When one door closes...okay, okay.
Hey, Bob Campbell, I LOVE YOU, MAN! You're simply the best. Better than all the rest. Sing it to yourself.

It was inevitable IMHO. I actually had 97.9 originally pegged as Bob before they pulled the bait-and-switch.herdgirl72 wrote:The River has changed to Bob as of this morning... I just heard it.
Or maybe not... I just wanted to throw more fuel on the fire.
