So, with the 4th quarter underway...

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

So, with the 4th quarter underway...

Post by Rock »

...what are you doing/changing to address the market volatility in your holiday sales? No holiday sales ideas started? You're kidding me, right? 8O

Ok, jocks...you may excuse yourselves...to your detriment.

We see large markets struggling, with ill tidings of poor holiday sales to come. What are you doing/implementing to bolster a sluggish 4th quarter? Any cool ideas you'd like to share? Despite market rankings, all of WV is basically 'local' radio. Boy's and girl's, as well as college basketball's upon us...have you given any thought of rate reductions, based on the perception of a weak economy? Are you trying to accommodate your local advertiser with lower rates than you originally forecast? Are you being for 'the little guy' by reducing rates to 'get them on the air', or are you holding steady with your rate cards, expecting the economy to rebound quickly?

What are your clients saying to you? Are you listening? Are you giving them alternatives? Is the perception of 'tough times' (whether they are or not) rampant? Are your sellers buying into it? Using it as an excuse? Already, I've seen 'feel-good' buys drop precipitously...how are we to take advantage of limited (or concentrated) ad dollars?

I can understand competitors here not wanting to divulge specifics, so no worries. Just trying to get a little brainstorming started.

Any jocks still here? Guess what? You get it.

edited twice so the lashing from 'he who shall remain nameless' will be minimalized.
America is at that awkward stage.

Even though I sell TV it's all the same.Always treat your clients money as if it were yours, make sure your are true friends with your clients...keep relationships and trust built. Sure the spending may fall during these times, but we in the media shouldn't be Herb Tarlicks (sp) If we are, clients will remember that when times get better, if we treat them with respect, they will also remember that when times improve. If all of us in TV & Radio sales work this way, we can pull more money away from print ,direct mail and outdoor. Thats the way I roll..what say yenz?
...and in Washington 2 peopls and in Newark a windmill and an armadillo!
