To the I-79 weigh station? The nearest one is not that far away from Morgantown, is it? Like, maybe 10 miles away, if that? Not exactly "blowtorch" coverage.
Anyway, were they doing oldies right (i.e., not the same tired, twelve tunes ad nauseam)?
What's up with this, Lou?

Yar Maties! That Thar Groovin' on 95.5 might be a Pirate signal???????
Maybe KISS from Wheeling? But that would not sound like what you describe.

Re: AnYbOdY bEeN gRoOvIn' On 95.5 In MoRgAnToWn?
Around 6:00pm tonight I heard "Diane" from The Bachelors, "Delilah" from Tom Jones, The Zombies' "Tell Her No" and Petula Clark's "I Know A Place" all in a row from Morgantown to Fairmont. Sounded like a "History Of British Rock" CD playing through. I checked the Amazon.com website and all of those songs on not on the same Rhino "History" CD, but they are all on one of them or another.
Now the interesting thing about this is, 95.5 was on last Wednesday night after the WVU-St. John's game playing early 2000's dance stuff (I know I heard Sonique in there).
Don't know who...or what...it is, but it's got a good signal around Goshen Road...

Using a directional, I am getting a country station from Johnstown, Pa on 95.5 from the north, and another country station from eastern Ohio from the west. There is a new translator on 97.5 near the I-79 town center. It is the Grafton FM K-love or something like that. It also may be the former Morgantown Radio Collective who was denied a CP for LPFM, but they were already operating on 97.5 in 2004, and later moved to 95.5 or 95.7 in 2006. They had ISDN running from a downtown bar studio to a transmitter on Beverly Avenue in Sunnyside. Later, they moved their transmitter to the top floor of Summit Hall.Scott Reppert wrote:Around 6:00pm tonight I heard "Diane" from The Bachelors, "Delilah" from Tom Jones, The Zombies' "Tell Her No" and Petula Clark's "I Know A Place" all in a row from Morgantown to Fairmont. The Ohio station on 95.5 is probably WHOK "The Hawk" in Lancaster (Columbus).

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Yesterday's listening to 95.5 yielded more oldies (this time more earlier 60's stuff) and this: a "YOU'RE LISTENING TO A LIVE365.COM STATION"...

Obviously,
They must be stopped.
I hereby, following the by-laws and executive orders of this forum-------hereby appoint Scott Reppart and Dave Loudin to launch a task-force that will diligently find, and therefore 'shut-down' this pock-mark on the broadcast industry.

Yes, since I single handily tracked down the Locust ave pirate in Fairmont. I will provide my services for a small fee. The last time I used some very high-tech equipment. Where is my multi-band radio with analog signal strength meter? The broadcast dipole 30 ft above his house also helped too. Somewhere I have pictures of the Locust Ave house. I cut the RG-8 coax with line pliers before I knocked on the front door. This guy was on 99.9 and had 100.1 Morgantown wiped out across Fairmont.Kitesgot wrote:Obviously,

Engineer,
Your references are solid. Although I do admit that I did not check into them in any way.
Since i have heard nothing concerning an alternative course of action, i will use my power;
given to me by actually having a log-in name to this forum, to allocate your expertise in this matter to the point of total solvency.
Anyone disagree?-------I thought not. Motion carried.

Good thing 'ya didn't try that at my house.engineer wrote:I cut the RG-8 coax with line pliers before I knocked on the front door.
The coroner would still be prying my dog's mouth off your leg and the 9 mm slugs out of your head and chest.

In Philly, I keep a "rotten pity" (a.k.a. American Staffordshire (Pit Bull) Terrier) for just such an incident as well. The typical protector dogs are just too big for the city.Hoosier Daddy wrote:Good thing 'ya didn't try that at my house.engineer wrote:I cut the RG-8 coax with line pliers before I knocked on the front door.

I don't really care too much about pirates. But when you have a licensed station wiped out with an obvious illegal operation is another story. The FCC was three to four days out and advertisers were calling. Shooting me would just add another felony charge to the illegal broadcasting (yes it's a felony) Then I would have won a posthumous NAB combat award since they officially declared a war on pirates in 1997. Are you defending the pirate?Hoosier Daddy wrote:Good thing 'ya didn't try that at my house.engineer wrote:I cut the RG-8 coax with line pliers before I knocked on the front door.

The moral of the story is to run the RG-8 through a piece of conduit to protect it from line pliers.

Re: AnYbOdY bEeN gRoOvIn' On 95.5 In MoRgAnToWn?
No, not at all. Never been a pirate and have no desire to ever be one. I have a MAJOR problem with some huffed-up radio engineer trespassing on private property and intentionally vandalizing and permanently damaging expensive electronic equipment, all in the name of saving his boss's irate advertisers. Document your findings and give them to the proper authorities. There is nothing you can do or say that makes it OK to do what you (so proudly) did. I do have (licensed) radio equipment at my home. You would have to climb a fence to access the tower, and, yes, that same fenced area is where the dog lives. You are no different than a neighbor who may be angry that my radio equipment interferes with their $6 alarm clock radio. That neighbor has no right to damage my property BEFORE they contact me about the problem. You are way too full of yourself. You could - and should - go to jail for what you did. Oh yeah, fuck the NAB.engineer wrote:Are you defending the pirate?

You sound like the one too full of yourself. How could you insult a fine organization like the NAB? I acted in good faith. You can ask the proper authorities yourself (FCC, Fairmont Police, Marion Co. Sheriff) In fact, it’s in the federal investigation report and notice of violation. Heck, they wanted to give me a commendation letter in my GROL file. But you’re right about one thing. I'm getting too old to be huffed-up anymore. You guys can track down the current pirate without me. I'll now go back to the engineering board where I belong.Hoosier Daddy wrote:You could - and should - go to jail for what you did.
