The Dawg On 930 AM

This weather must be playing havoc with power, transmitters and/or satellite feeds. The Dawg is currently simulcasting on 930 AM (WRVC), but 93.7 is off the air. Meanwhile, sister AM 1340, WCMI, is also apparently off the air, as is 92.7FM.

Earlier this morning and late last night, WVHU 800 was cutting in and out off and on..then went off entirely during the 6am feed of Fox News. About an hour later, they seemed to be back on the air, but the programming was roten, so I left...

Yeah we have massive icing up on Tarpin so we are on the AM till things get better....

I truly think that virtually no one listens to any of the programming on 930 AM any more. with the exception of the big band music and Hoppy. The old Friendly Giant really, really, really needs a format change. Then again, perhaps it is paying its bills, though I doubt it.

For less than 100K you can fix those pesky power interruptions. Isn't this the same group of stations that were down some over the summer due to the studios loosing power?

That was three years ago and the power company wouldn't let us use a generator...something about the backfeed or whatever...it was
the fault of the building, not us.

Gosh how I remember that summer...we took an SS32 to the ridge to at least have something on the air...the backfeed was an issue and I believe it was a matter of safety to the Apco guys working under the sidewalk on the transformers...cause you know, there's more than meets the eye with them sombitches.

I still don't understand how Cameron doesn't feel like he's going to fall down the elevator shaft working on the STL gear.

What a great idea!
That never even occurred to me.
Ten years here and a generator completely slipped my mind.
(Especially at a site so vital to the group.)
I'd be fixing things, but my time is better-spent here because of the sage advice.
I'll get right on that.

The upside is that the building's insurance company gets to buy us a new Planet studio.

Anybody got some used Arrakis, UREI, or Ampro consoles? I'm thinkin' only the best.

You should have a collection from the purchase of 92.7 decades ago.
If those broadcasting gems have already been sold to the highest bidder,
you could always check on eBay.

And now, The Dawg is back to being FM only and broadcasting on air, WRVC AM is back to broadcasting whatever it is that virtually no one listens to, The Planet is back on the air, and WVHU is doing its thing...

I used to work there and I can't remember the studios having the ability to loose power. Cameron, why was this capability hidden from me? I can remember them losing power once, but loosing, I didn't know we could do that. What kind of power can the studios loose? Could I have used it to increase cume?

when done right there is NO feedback to the power company. we used a generator for several years and never had a problem with feedback. that is what switches are for. sounds like someone pulling the wool over somebodys eyes.

Thank you. It is called a transfer switch. If you are running on generator, the transfer switch disconnects you from your service. Unless there is some arcing going on, which is a whole new problem, it is physically impossible to "feedback" power to the power company.

Let the non-techies take a story and run with it...that's what I say.
The folks that pray to Mecca and run the building will not let their wonderful tenant have a generator OR a transfer switch.
I have wanted out of the Coal Exchange since...let me see...1992...something like that.
I haven't signed paychecks or rent checks since then, though.

Please, go on. One of you might stumble on a soulution for me.
