CHARLESTON, W.Va.
Deer season starts in November for hunters, but for highway maintenance crews, it lasts all year.
Crews are out on West Virginia's more than 38,400 miles of roads each day clearing carcasses.
The Daily Mail reports that the state has the distinction of leading all others in the probability of motorists hitting deer. State Farm Insurance says drivers have a 1 in 53 chance of striking a deer on state roads.
Last year, crews pulled 16,210 deer carcasses from state roads, down 20 percent from the 20,189 cleared in 2009.
