a few things

[Ace Purple]

-Some people I know, including co-workers, have become P1s for Comedy 107.1 (WLRX), the former simulcast of X106.3. And I'm not talking about just a comment or two in passing, but them having a remarkable enthusiasm for it. I wouldn't have thought all comedy on FM would be a good fit, but maybe I'm wrong.

-WAMX dropping John Boy & Billy has increased my TSL with the station considerably, since going mostly music in the morning with Quinn has been very strong. I'm not sure who tweaked the playlist or if it's just my imagination, but I've really liked the song selection as of late. Seems like more 90s tracks, which is right in my wheelhouse. Quinn is good in his role, with enough talking so that the station isn't a jukebox but enough music to be a go-to spot for people who want rock in the morning.

-Both moves (losing the simulcast and dropping John Boy & Billy) I first learned about by hearing promos on The Planet mocking WAMX about them. I can certainly appreciate a good radio war, though I was confused at first about the morning situation since I heard them reference losing JB&B and then tuned into X106.3 only to hear that low-rent hick show out of Charlotte still on in mornings, perhaps riding out a contract? I dunno, but whatever the case it's nice to have as an option for my short commute home in morning drive.

-Hits 97.9 is still brilliantly programmed. Between the song selection, the presentation, and even strong on-air talent... it's a nice combo. The VO of the artist/song after each track is nice, and even when that segues into a jock talk break (which I thought might be problematic when the station first added jocks), it flows very well.
